poser 0
Can anybody help me with this? I am travelling to Tokyo from 3rd Dec-6th Dec. Wish to make a day trip to Yuzawa... but understand Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort only opens on 12th Dec. Can I go explore using the Gondolas if I go Gala Yuzawa before 12th Dec? Had been reading the Gala Yuzawa website several times but am not able to find the information needed. Thanks a lot.
SnowJapan Admin SnowJapan 178 Posted November 26, 2008 SnowJapan Admin Share Posted November 26, 2008 Hello and welcome. No, you won't be able to do anything without using the Gondola - the bottom of the resort is actually at the top of the gondola. So unfortunately you will be out of luck there... If you want a day trip in that area, Kagura is open. See the Yuzawa Now and Naeba Now pages for daily updates on that.
poser 0
That is great advice. Thanks a lot. I am still having a little problem though.. To go to the Kagura area, is there a station called Mitsumata? Or do I take a bus from Echigo Yuzawa to Mitsumata? Thanks.
XilR8 0
Get out at Echigo Yuzawa station, then you take the bus in front of the station that goes to Mitsumata, Tashiro and Naeba. Get off at Mitsumata, which is the base of the gondola.

frannyo 2
Or if there is no bus when you want get a taxi - though only reasonable price if there's 3 or 4 of you...
XilR8 0
If I go up on my own, I sometimes scout for other single skiers (they're always skiers for some reason) and get them to share a taxi with me. It's about 3,400 yen total fare IIRC.
SKI 15
The buses up there aren't quite as regular as they should be (well they didn't used to be when I used them) so you've got to think you might be taxi-ing it. And of course, with taxis you get to sit on those lovely cake doyly (sp.) covers.
