Red Dog 0
Planning my weekend trip to snow country, living in Maebashi, what do ya reckon folks?
muikabochi 208
Well depends what your bag is, but I personally like Kawaba. Great snow when I've been there. Another fairly small place that gets good snow is Houdaigi. Marunuma Kogen is a popular resort, especially early/late season. Tenjindaira is also popular but the resort itself is really small. mina2 6
Other ones to look at, all fairly small, Norn Minakami, Minakami Kogen. You could always go a bit further north and hit the resorts in Yuzawa as well.
Kumapix 0
Red dog, have you been to Hunk yet? just wondering if it's still around. You can just jump on the highway and hit Naeba. For park action Oze Tokura and I think saera are good. Oh yeah, Hotaka Bokujo has a good park too
groovy_wizard 0
How easy are the gunma resorts to get to by train? I live in Takasaki, but don't have a car. Would love to ride every weekend, but am not too keen on taking the shinkansen each time. Dont mind the train and a bus.

muikabochi 208
Fairly easy I think groovy_wizard, though the bus shuttle services and transport from Minakami station are not as good or as convenient as that from Yuzawa where it is very convenient from the main Echigo Station and many resorts are fairly close by. Whichever, you'll want to take the Takasaki line north which converts to the Joetsu line somewhere (?). Stop off at Minakami or Yuzawa. http://www.snowjapan.com/e/travel/gunma-transport.html
