I've searched for this topic, and suspect it might lie hidden somewhere in the depths of "Snow in Japan" - but wondered if anyone had a quick answer to this question from a friend, who is thinking of going skiing in Japan in mid-December...

"Will Hakuba be ok? Will there be skiing at the top or all the way down? Would Niseko be better at that time of year?"

Cheers

HappyG, that will be a big risk. I was there last year and several years ago over Christmas but got screwed by insufficient snow on both occasions. Hokkaido (Kiroro, Niseko) are much safer bets for mid-December.

Unfortunately, that other smart-ass, Thursday, is right! It probably was my fault. The other years at Hakuba were fine over Christmas. It was only the 2 years I went that turned out badly.
