HappyG 0
I've searched for this topic, and suspect it might lie hidden somewhere in the depths of "Snow in Japan" - but wondered if anyone had a quick answer to this question from a friend, who is thinking of going skiing in Japan in mid-December... "Will Hakuba be ok? Will there be skiing at the top or all the way down? Would Niseko be better at that time of year?" Cheers
grungy-gonads 54
I would say to get an idea of the conditions in both places to check the archives of the Now reports http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/hakuba-now.php http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/niseko-now.php
thursday 1
Mid December is risky alround. Last year Niseko was just OK by the 18th.
thursday 1
And you need to read the whole Snow in Japan thread to work it out.
Markie 0
HappyG, that will be a big risk. I was there last year and several years ago over Christmas but got screwed by insufficient snow on both occasions. Hokkaido (Kiroro, Niseko) are much safer bets for mid-December. Fattwins 0
Snow making Markie is loosing his magic. Dec in Japan is always touch and go. Some years its on others it isnt.
Markie 0
Unfortunately, that other smart-ass, Thursday, is right! It probably was my fault. The other years at Hakuba were fine over Christmas. It was only the 2 years I went that turned out badly.
HappyG 0
So the next important question is - where are you going this year, and when?
