Goryu manages to push it out right till the end... and some die-hards were up there for the last day of the season while the rest of us were enjoying the 30 degree weather and bbq'ing by the river! Well, someones gotta do it.
They did well with the relatively low snowfall this season to open right through to the end though. So there we are then, the end of the 08/09 season.
All the resorts are now taking a break in terms of lift operation before they get things moving for the Green Season.
Happo are the first to get moving again opening on May 16th and running until November 3rd.
Tsugaike follows not long after with their Gondola and the higher ropeway opening on May 20th.
Goryu's gondola moves from July 1st to November 3rd and Hakuba 47 from July 10th to September 15th.
Hakuba is coming into blossom and green and people will now be far from the resorts and on the mountain-bikes, in the rivers and lakes and hiking the Alpine trails... there's a lot to do in Hakuba during the Green Season, so hope to see you here sometime.
We hope that you enjoyed the reports over the winter months - we'll be back in the run up to the 09/10 season after the summer.
Have a good summer. |

Beautiful weather for Golden Week alright with blue skies today and tomorrow though cloud is coming in from Sunday to Tuesday apparently. It seems there's still snow with plenty of cars parked in the carparks. Mountain-bikes are becoming the preferred mode of transport for many!
Still, Hakuba in Golden Week has a bit of everything with snow on the tops, the lakes with blossoms in bloom and the rivers pumping. Have a good one wherever you spend it!

After the colder weather and snowfall follows the fine sunny weather and bright blue skies (though things have clouded over somewhat this afternoon). It has been a fantastic day to be out there with the snow giving the runs up top a bit of new life and some surprisingly decent conditions up there. There's a fairly moderate wind up on the mountain.
Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan and it is looking like we will be treated to more fine and warm weather tomorrow was well as right through until at least the end of the weekend. Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are also national holidays and the last of the Golden Week and indeed the last day open for Hakuba 47, Happo and Tsugaike Kogen this season.

More snow to report in Hakuba! After some winter like conditions yesterday and even a few cm of snow, there was a further sprinkling of snow high on the mountains to report this morning and a cold temperature of -1 reported at the top of Goryu.
Right now it is cloudy in the village but more blue skies appearing as the day progresses. Some fairly strong winds blowing about up top are keeping things feeling cold with a high of around 7 degrees in the village today.
Tomorrow looks like it will be cloudy followed by generally fine weather right through into the weekend.
We're entering the last part of the season for the resorts in the area, as they stay open until the end of the upcoming Golden Week.
Happo:
Gondola, 3 quad lifts, Hakuba Kokusai No 3 Pair A,B pair lift operating on upper slopes (access via the gondola).
Goryu:
Gondola and Alps No 1 and No 3 pair lifts. It is no longer possible to ski to the bottom from Alps no daira (use the Gondola).
47:
Gondola, Line A pair, Line B pair, Line C quad, Line E pair - still able to ski down to base area.
Tsugaike Kogen:
Gondola and 1 lift operating (upper courses only).
