Pete the Shoemaker 0
I have heard of all the scams going on here with telephone calls and the like, but yesterday was the first time that I have seen one in action. My lady friend (Japanese) got a hagaki/postcard that basically said she was being sued and needed to go to court. I was in on my own when it came so I spent a while trying to understand it and all sorts of thoughts were going through my head... what have we done?! I got quite worried before I got a hold on myself and decided that it might not be real. It looked legit with an official governmental-sounding name and phone number. Anyway I decided to do a search on the phone number that was on the card and happily it soon came up as one of the popular scams of the moment. Anyone been on the end of something like this? klingon 10
One of my colleagues recently got something similar Pete. She was worried sick. I told her it might be all the porn she was viewing on the web.

bobby12 0
This kind of thing is why I dont like to use facebook/myspace etc - I dont like too much personal info to be freely available to criminals.
Crudzilla 0
I have trouble understanding my water bill and for the first few months didn't work out what it was and didn't pay it. Thus this kinda scam would never work on me. I't just sit in my junk mail pile. Protection through ignorance! PS. my junk mail pile is HUGE. Is there anything I could stick to my door telling them not to post it and would it work?
Tubby Beaver 209
Bugger off with your shite junk mail!!
me jane 0
When I lived in Saga we used to get so much porn junk mail (with graphic photos) that the apartment managers decided to have a meeting about it. The result of the lengthy meeting was to put up huge red signs saying that as they had kids, please don't put the porn ads in the mailboxes. It had absolutely no effect whatsoever. Another apartment I lived in (in Tokyo)had a really cool system with a cardboard box below the mailboxes. We dropped all the junk into the box without taking it upstairs and someone bundled it all up and put it out on paper recycling day. Now I carry it all up to the 5th floor, put it in a plastic bag, and carry it down again.
bobby12 0
how about putting a cardboard box down there then?

its-a-clock 0
A few of my colleagues got something like you mention Pete. One of them came into work in a semi-panic wondering what on earth she had done wrong (I didn't suggest watching porn, klingon, didn't think she'd appreciate it). The relief on her face when she found out it was a scam!
