It depends on if the jump has a slight lean one way or the other - but in general and on a straight jump I prefer backside. Easier to spot your landing for sure, but also it is just the way I started spinning so it feels a bit more natural.

I can only do BS 3s riding natural, but I can do a FS 3 from fakie. in fact FS 3s fakie are really easy to do, as your body naturally wants to spin that way, & sometimes you get a 540 without trying all that hard.

Actually Backside and frontside were used before there was even snowboarding.. In surfing it relates to how your facing the beach while riding a wave.. If you turn into the wave with your back to the beach its backside. If you turn so your facing the beach and the wave is behind you its frontside..

Or more easier: Regular- Spinning clockwise is backside and counterclockwise is frontside. Goofy- Spinning clockwise is frontside and counterclockwise hopefully turns into a backside 900 melon.
