As lovely as the trains might be, as smooth and fast as they may run, why oh why do the stations and lines have to be so incredibly ugly.

 

I have been to both Yuzawa and Urasa in the last few days and the huge ugly stations and elevated lines are just a massive blot on the landscape. You'd have thought they could have at least made them a bit more pleasing to the eye.

I know what you mean muikabochi - those lines are just monstrosities and cutting through the mountains is just so sad. I remember when I first saw the one in Yuzawa and thought wtf?!

I spoke to a few people about this once as I totally agree with you. They seemed to be implying that people were proud of the huge structures - that it showed that they were living in a modern world and progress.
