"Kitchen table" vs. "chicken table". I'm good at correcting that one though.
  2. Everyone here needs to have a beer. I was your surrogate beer imbiber tonight. I think I nearly had one for each of you. I drank them while watching a SNOWboard dvd, too. But to not be too off-topic, I say we agree to agree: The dude was a total c*ckgoblin, and security was way too over the top, like that arm-rastlin' movie with Sylvester Stallone. Socio-political climate and off-the-cuff First Ammendment musings aside, it's as simple as this:
  3. This just in this morning. This is the kind of eye candy I like to see in mid-September.
  4. Yeah, now that Nintendo's got the market back (and some sites even report the Wii already outselling the 360, despite the latter's one-year headstart), hopefully Nintendo next gen console will have all the positives of the current Wii but with true next gen graphics. The new Super Mario game coming out in November has absolutely incredible graphics though. Hopefully that'll open the eyes of some third party developers to stop making Gamecube graphics games for the Wii. (My new Metroid game has killer graphics, but I've got to finish a few other games before I get to it.)
  5. Good to know - thanks for the replies! Is there a yearly railway pass you can purchase? If so, how much is is it? I'm just wondering how much of that daily cost is the transportation and if a pass purchase is warranted. If we do go to Tokyo, I'm sure I won't get my usual 40+ days a year of shred, but I'd like to see what I could salvage, and at what cost. Also, does the Nagano area get as crowded as the Yuzawa resorts on weekends? Are hotel prices out there outlandish, or are there some reasonably priced places to crash on a Friday or Saturday night? Also, how much further i
  6. Thanks for the reply, muikabochi! I'll check those resorts in the SJ Database! By the way, how is it out there? Deep crowds of fashionista scenesters or just manageable lift lines of skiers and riders?
  7. So, the missus is getting antsy about going back to Japan. I welcome the idea, but she's deadset on moving to Tokyo. I fall under the "it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" category, as I'm not a fan of big city living. I am curious - for those who live in Tokyo, what commutes do you face for skiing and/or riding? What's nearest? Do you drive or take the train? How much is it? Is the resort worthwhile? etc. Yoroshiku o-negai shimasu!
  8. When we married, my wife (who is Japanese) took my family name but kept her family as her new middle name when in the States. When she's in Japan she just goes by her original family name. We're flexible.
  9. Oh, I'm sure this office bird is just the surrogate mother . . . and his wife just doesn't know that yet.
  10. Dude, Americans are so fat, those bombs won't hurt us. (Although my wife said Aussies actually beat out us Yanks for futotteru-ness when she led a group of chuugakusei to Adelaide. )

  14. ESL teacher at a local community college in the afternoons. ESL teacher at a local technical college in the mornings. I haven't run over anyone while eating my lunch on the way to afternoon classes, so I'm pretty stoked.
  15. ThirtyTwo's are cool. They're chunky but somehow really light. They don't last as long as other boots, but they fit really well with the heatmolding. I'd suggest to steer clear of the new Ultralights though. Even some of the ThirtyTwo guys say they get softer faster than the Lashed with the molded EVA foam shell.

  17. The only US mag to do a DVD was Future, and that didn't even last a season. They had proper releases though. Burton team DVD's, 91 Words for Snow (an excellent snow film), and other worthy stuff. I've only seen a few of TWSJ's DVD's (the first handful), and they were pretty hit or miss. More of the latter, unfortunately.
  18. Future's pretty good, but I'm pretty sure they lost a lot of customers (including me) when they stopped including a DVD with each issue. I think SNOWBOARD magazine is better, and it's almost as cheap, and it has some solid photography. The best snow mag in the US is easily Frequency. It's more of a coffee table book than a magazine, and easily has the best writing, articles and photography in the US. It's international prices will make Onboard seem like a steal though.
  19. Damn, soubs - Are those boats on No.2's feet? If they're honest to God kutsu, I think he's gonna be taller than you by the time he gets to high school!
  20. I like a handful of snow down the back of my pantalones on a hard bail. It helps me regain consciousness a little faster.
