sounds like lots of railin around. You should have seen my first rail experience last weekend at 47. Hit the rail and the board immediately slid out from under me, ass hit the rail and I bounced off....hahahahaha wish FT got a picture of that one.... But after the 3rd try I could actually slide a bit and get off without mangling myself..... -

Helmet or Not to Helmet
Fubuki replied to Fubuki's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Man pretty soon I will need a helmet just to be in this room. I had no intention of starting a war, but merely seeking peoples opinions about wearing a helmet. The fact remains that it is only an opinion, which can also be thought of as a personal choice. As far as spud goes whatever floats your boat man. If you get off on antagonizing people you don`t know over the internet, then more power to you. But as for me I think bushpig had some great advice. Just ignore! Hey EBC are you wearing your helmet during those onsen snowball fights. You might want to think about it. Those snowballs -
False advertising in Hakuba?
Fubuki replied to nzlegend's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I think I would have to agree with everyone. Echoland is definitely the epicenter of entertainment, and with all the new backpackers there I have a feeling this year will definitely show the potential it has to offer. If it isn`t considered downtown yet.....it will be soon! Just think if you want to meet half the people posting on here just go to Echoland bars, and or backpackers and there they are slinging the same shizzle they sling here....hahahaha, but with a beer in hand! -
Helmet or Not to Helmet
Fubuki replied to Fubuki's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
no actually it was quite clear that your opinion is advocating helemts, but what it also clearly demonstrates is that you have a propensity to overanalyse a philosophize a phrase that clearly everyone understands except you. Or you are just looking to start an arguement, but the fact remains that no one is mandating that people must wear helmets and if they did then that would undermine the nature of freedom. I am sure your life has the utmost value and maybe more than anyone elses on this forum and for that maybe helmets should be mabdatory, but other are grown up enough to make their own dec -

sleeping in the car
Fubuki replied to tsondaboy's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
One of the best winter camping tricks I learned was to put a bottle of hot water in you sleeping bag when you go to sleep. It can warm up your bag, and be nice and toasty on the toes. Also, one of the worst things about winter sleeping is getting out of the bag to take a piss. It`s also a good idea to keep a pee bottle in the car. Just don`t mix it up with the water bottle in the middle of the night. I know that seems a bit gross, but I promise it will save you from many a freezing bathroom trips! Also, sleep with a hat on! -
Helmet or Not to Helmet
Fubuki replied to Fubuki's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Well everyone had lot of good advice, and stories, and you will all be proud to know that I just purchased a Giro 9 off ebay for a whopping $31. Let`s just hope the other guy didn`t have some funky head and packed out the padding in some crazy way. I still realize that wearing a helmet is a personal choice, but thinking about mtb biking, and rock climbing, I have always worn a helmet so why not riding. Especially since my riding is progressing and I am becoming more aggresive in the trees and dropping bigger things. I quess when you really think about it, It certainly can`t hurt me, b -
snow hakuba
Fubuki replied to Fattwins's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
It was a good weekend even though I only got a half day at 47. There was about 30cm of fresh up high, but mid ountain was still a bit patchy with grass poking through. I`m stocked to start seeing people roll into Hakuba now. I`m a bit sad I will miss the whole Christmas madness, I hope it`s like last year. Meters of snow falling everyday.... However, it was a bit lonely at 47 since ever1 seems to be going with Happo this year. Any other 47ers out there? -
Helmet or Not to Helmet
Fubuki replied to Fubuki's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
yeah that's a good point Samurai, didn't think about it freezing. But if it only happens on the really brutal days it could be worth the extra. It[s always nice to get you into the flow when you cruzin the trees. -
A Season in Japan
Fubuki replied to journey_man's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
JM-check Nagoya airport as well, or Central International Airport as it is actually called. Also, another bummer about passes in Hakuba is that you can't get a joint pass for any of the really good mountains. Also, look closely at each mountain for the type of terrain you want. I spent a season at Happo One last year and loved it. It pretty much has everything you want in many different conditions. The patrol aren"t Nazis, too which is an added plus. However, the price is a bit steep for Hakuba, but compared to Canada....I have no idea. About tickets, I usually just go through the
