Warm feet
Bonio replied to smellyfeet's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
When I last went boarding I was always getting snow in my boots and after about an hour my feet would get damp and cold, plus I had a hell of a time properly drying them out. Considering duct taping up to my knee's -
The SJ Party

Party party party! Will there be little sausages on cocktail sticks? -
I just booked for Snowbeds from December 20th untill January 17th, I may be extending it though, or moving to another resort, or doing a bit of travelling round the countryside choices choices Anyone else gonna be there that fancies a bit of boarding together? I gonna be travelling alone so I will probably get lonely, up on the mountains by myself after a while

Dilemma. (Sometimes) smelly girlfriend

Would she be offended waking up next to you to find you had a peg on your nose? -
Anyone know what kind of WiFi access there is around Japan. I have a pocket PC caperble of picking up internet access wirelessly from hotspots and was wondering if they are common around many areas in Japan. I was recently in Kuala Lumpur and most coffee shops and malls had there own. I would assume this would be the same in Japan but does anyone else here actually use them?

That was kinda meant in jest, not very obvious though I admit Yeah, it seems to be moving west apparently due to migrating birds. They have confirmed cases of it jumping from bird to human in Turkey now, and apparently it's hit Romania as well.

I was just wondering what the media coverage of bird flu is like in Japan and other places at the moment. In the UK it's constantly in the papers and there seems to be lots of scaremongering about it mutating into human to human transmissionable form and causing a global pandemic. Is anyone seriously worried about this? Hope it doesnt affect international travel, or at least not untill I'm in Japan. I wonder if it will have an affect on insurence for traveling to east asia. It hopefully won't come to anything and it's just the British tabloids not letting go of a story, but just w

I'm looking to be there during all of January -
So I suppose I better get organised
Bonio replied to Bonio's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I'm writting to snowbeds now, in order to see how flexible they are in reguards to keeping a bed long term but not neccessarily staying there for the odd weekend. I have no qualms about staying in dorms, so I'm hoping there should be a bed available that might even allow for my somewhat eratic schedule. As it stands at the moment I expect if I can get affordable accomadation I should be in that area mainly untill mid febuary so hopefully i'll see you there fb -

Doh! I was holding my atlas upside down -
Hi there, At the moment i'm planning on coming to Japan in mid December, of this year, for an as yet undecided period. I've been looking into bits and pieces but now with only two months roughly untill I intend to be there I thought I would ask a few questions. Questions mind that partly i'm sure have been asked before, sos for that I'm planning on flying into Narita around the 15th of December and spending some time in Tokyo as I intend visiting a friend I have there. After that though I was intending staying at Snowbeds in Hakuba and spending the first part of my time in Japan arou

Bonio replied to nzlegend's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry

Night out in Tokyo - any suggestions
Bonio replied to RichE's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I got desperate for some British beer when I was in Tokyo and went to the Dubliners Irish bar in Shibuya one night. Its a big Gaijin hangout so it would probably be a waste if your just spending the one night< but it does do fish and chips You can leave you luggage over night at Narita cant you? There should be a left luggage there> -

Pink is not really my colour. I could go bright green, but I would prefer to remain a little more understated -
I'm thinking about dying my hair dark green before going out to Japan this season. Anyone else doing anything a bit crazy this season? or has done before?

Staying the Season
Bonio replied to Bonio's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I'm starting to think I might spend a month in Hakuba and then possibly travel upwards towards the Hokkaido resorts, see'ing the sight along the way. The only problem being the more traveling I do the more it's gonna cost me. Maybe if i'm lucky I might make friends during the first long term stay, people willing to do the same. -

Thanks for the help, I found info about a place called Snowbeds in Hakuba that might be worth looking into. -
Staying the Season

I'd really like the freedom of movement that comes with the two not being attached. Though if it were the right job I would certainly consider staying on with that as long as possible, especially with accomadation as a bonus. Shared though is something I would certainly be likely to enjoy more (assuming it's the right kind of people ;O) -
Hi I was wondering what kind of shared accomodation options their are for staying in the major Japanese resorts. I've recently decided I am going to take a year off work and blow some of the money i've saved. Top on the lists of things I'd like to do is a ski season in Japan. I've been studying Japanese on and off for about two years and in that time i've been twice, but recently I got into snowboarding and I would love to combine the two hobbies by learning Japanese while improving my snowboarding. The thing is i'm worried because I would be going out their alone and I might not get as
