  1. Quote: can't cut it up. It's a single file. We used a professional editing studio to edit nearly two hours of raw footage into an 18 minute package to music. The movie is on a digital betacam master, is currently being turned into DVD and should be ready next week. so how much does this kind of stuff cost? figuring out how to do it ourselves (dvd authoring etc) took a bit of time to figure out, but it was free... conversely, our stuff probably doesn't look as good as the professionally done stuff
  2. aha! i think i know what you mean by the horizontal stribes... that's just a result of having converted the clip to a media player file for broadband streaming... so the clip is super low quality compared to what it really is. simply exporting the movie or converting it to a dvd format results in a crystal clear image - but of course way way to big to stick on snow japan... and i'm not too worried about quality for the clips here, just size so i'm able to post them, but thanks for the advice fat twins... have them wait in a place that's not dame and then have them ski to the place
  3. the chairlift filming is super easy if you have radios... basically, all filming is made a million times easier with radios thunderpants, i'm not quite sure what you mean by horizontal stribes? sorry, i just use the software, i'm not really up with the lingo
  4. gonna try and keep it under an hour... prolly 40-50 minutes... don't want anyone getting bored... most segments are between 2 and 3 1/2 minutes... they'll be a bit of a montage of people who didn't have enough footage for a segment of their own... other stuff too... all the clips on snowjapan will be included as extras on the menu page of the dvd...
  5. i'm a jet and i'me also a qualified teacher... i think if anything, it makes you persevere a lot more with the job... i stuck it out for 3 years... only the last half year has got me homesick... in my case, the frustrating bit is the really bad kids (i have lots) who make your life a living hell, but having said that, the really great ones cheer you up a treat. i don't know if being qualified is a disadvantage or not, but i'll admit that a lot of people in my class applied and i was the only one who got accepted (not that i'm very special...) anyways, shut up shimba! ok, i say to
  6. sending the vid as i type this very message fingers crossed....
  7. these days, captain stag just watches the vids as they are made like everyone else... he's got his hands full battling the bugs invading our computer... i'll export the beginning of the movie tonight and send it in... snowjapan, can i send one in that's bigger this time... last one for the season, and it's the full intro to our movie... minus any effects or titles... i'm still playing with it, but this will prolly be the last time i take time out of making the movie to let the computer export...
  8. i read somewhere that women who wear makeup have less sun damage to their skin, which makes sense when you consider that some of it, like foundation, effectively changes the colour of your skin (a friend of mine at university was quite pale when she didn't have any orange coloured makeup on her face and neck1). but i agree with sunrise, sunblock is best - and you don't have to worry about fixing it up! as for the guys wearing makeup, are they dextrous enough to? i've seen captain stag's handwriting and attempts at artwork. the motor skills just aren't there now look what
  9. so what's the deal with wearing makeup when you're skiing? i don't get it. you're wearing goggles, a neckwarmer, helmet or hat... it's not like anyone can see you anyways... not to mention you sweat a lot when you ski sometimes... i just think its strange when ladies are in the loos at the ski field touching up their makeup... does not make sense!
  10. yep! its the weekend and i've just finished at the gym... so i'm off to get myself some food... and i've already forgotten about the crummy day (i try not to let things bother me for too long, life goes on, right! ) so ocean, how easy would it be to change jobs? i suppose more is at stake when you've got kids... can't bum around anymore, changing jobs when you get sick of them (give me credit, i managed reasonably well for 2 years, but maybe the 3rd was a mistake, but i need the money for the next adventurous stage of my life )
  11. sorry there fattwins, you must have got lost there somewhere... i was in no way comparing myself to toque, i have no idea how fast he goes (i haven't even met him!)... i was talking about the captain and my male friends...
  12. i just had a half shitty, half good day at school today (a common occurance) and was wondering what other people think of their jobs. i finish in july, thank god, so i'm out of here to never teach again (yep, it's even put me off teaching in nz, even though i'm a trained teacher!). at the moment, when i grow up, i want to be a bc ski guide, ski bum or get good enough at bodyboarding or mountain biking or some other outdoor sports so that i can do that most of the time and finance it by working here and there... but that's the frustrated, and pissed off shimba talking...
  13. appi is ok, but super crowded, flat at the bottom... they have a pipe though, and a decent park... never really skied there much though, people either rave about it (generally people who like the groomed) or hate it... we went for the park... waiting that long for the lifts was pretty crummy when we don't have to wait much at geto, and not at all at hachi... it's "the resort" as far as iwate is concerned. if you want bc, then go to hachimantai (not that far away) they have a ski out of bounds at your own risk policy... you can go wherever you want, but patrol will say something if conditions a
  14. am i the only without internet at work? i go to school (and what a shitty day it was, too, thank god i'm home) and come back home, and this thread has increased to over 40 posts! he he, i just want to say that i can out-skin and out hike the captain , and i can also beat all the guys going uphill when we go mountain biking... but they all beat me going downhill i like to think it's because i'm lighter so i can't go as fast - that's my lie and i'm sticking to it! when you least expect it toque, a girl is going to go racing past you up that hill and you're going to have t
  15. sorry toque, but if you think of it as a ball and chain, then obviously you have yet to find the right person. if you have to worry if they are having fun, then of course it's gonna suck, Quote: With friends whether they be male or female I don't have to worry if they are having a good time. If they arn't then they shouldn't have signed on for the trip this should be the same for the girlfriend/wife. i didn't ski with captain stag for a lot of the time when i was learning... he did ski with me every now and then, but i sure didn't want to hold him back... now i can keep up and the
  16. well, captain stag and i have simliar knowledge... i've read a bit more than him though... but he's prolly still a little better than me in terms of judging and feeling things when we are out on the snow... once we both do avalanche safety management stage 1 in nz (that's the introductory course for professionals working in the field) this season, we should be pretty similar - i hope.
  17. higher up... a bit more weather going on up there... rising air causing winds etc...

  19. Quote: I hear yah Shimba No matter how hard I try I can't seem to break the 50 mark. I guess the whole weekend skier thing has it's limits. Good for you Montoya. I'm really jealous. That is cool that you can ride that many days while still having a "real" job wait till next nz season, i'll see how many days i can pack into less than 2 and a half months... not sure how many full days i'll get at whistler if we end up there though...
  20. for some reason, it always caps off at 50ish days... would have been more last year except the bung leg... would have been more this year except for the parents visiting for 3 weeks and taking half our gear home for us...
  21. actually, i'll be doing nz ski instructing and avalanche stage one in the same short season before heading to canada....
  22. yep... knew that... didn't even consider the lowest end assassin... went for the mtx instead of the mtx pro because the only difference between the two was that the mtx had a narrower waist... and since i'm essentially buying for doing stage 1, that's what i wanted and needed...
