Ok gottcha. Resorts in Japan and Japan as a whole still dont understand customer service. I think we all know it. There is nothing that we can do to change it, they have to do it themselves. Again we all know that, takes foreveerrrr. I dont like gromming everything. Most steep places are packed by riders. I find its better that way the powder is lighter. When you groom with only a little bit of snow you can snag a rock a destory the groomers tiller. (very expensive) so most resorts will track pack which means no tiller just pushing and flatting the base.

be careful get a Visa my Kiwi buddy was working at a resort for 3 to 4years on vacation visas and the govt. caught him at the boarder after he went to Korea for a vacation and also to get another 3 monthes on the vacation visa. They locked him up and shipped him home. but get a working holiday visa and you will be fine.

barok have you got a shovel. Also got a Out of bounds line in Hakuba that you need a beacon for I will show it to you if the snow is right. But you need some gear. no hiking up and out either -
Do you stick to the same places?

I like the little place that not too many people know about, but its got to have difficult lines and variety too. Also the cost of the pass is important as is out of bounds access. -

Grooming has nothing to do with avlanches. For one reason or another I dont know of a resort that uses bombs to blast here. Without the bombs you cant open anything without putting your own staff at risk. Fernie Canada will keep things closed for days so will whistler whitewater, Kirkwood and about all of Tahoe. Worked at a resort here and when it dumps it sometimes took 5 to 10 people just to shovel the top lift out. I agree that more should be done for the customer but not at the expensive of safty. Big white took out their top T Bar 4 years ago in a controled Avlanche. -

I dont think Japanese resorts do a good job of customer satisfaction. That said if the winds are high the resort can do nothing about it except put the lift someplace shettlered. That often means not in the best spot. Second although I dont think most japanese resorts do any or very good avie control one of the first things you learn is that 2 to 3 etc days storms can be dangerous. Big snow high winds are some of the triggers of big avlanches in or out of bounds so sorry OBm you did not make a good point. The resort I feel should set the price on the day and then keep the customer inform -

Going right to the top would be a problem, winds and avalanches, I sugest 3 chairs. One from the end of the summer road. The second 2 heading up to the various ridges (benches) just below the main peaks. To do any of this I will admit that the patrol had better be good. I mean educated in control work. I still like to dream -

Little known fact there is a Happo seasons pass and it is only 22000 yen (NO Lie). My friend has one. Its good for Myoko, shiga kogen, areas Zao and some other areas. But here is the catch there is only 600 or so tickets. I can find out where he bought if you really want. Ocean that run is rabbit the longest steepest mogul run in the area. Dont worry there are penty of other areas to ride. If you want to get caught by patrol dont ride that nice looking pow field right across from their patrol shack. If you do dont stop and tuck it to the bottom. -

Always take care outside and sometimes inside the ropes. Remember those blue bird pow days can sometimes heat up the snow and make it weak. Try to stay away from BC runs after huge dumps let them settle. Look around for signs of Avalanches. Look at what you are going to ride before you do or ride damm slow. Go with people who know the area. BC or dangerous terrain should be skied with a beacon and gear probe shovel etc. Ride one at a time and let the person who is finished get to a safe zone. Dont cut hard on top of you buddies. Check out with Patrol wh -
