ivo. . . yeah, it was, he's a jackass, and despite his high approval ratings right now, most Americans know he's a jackass. i'm glad to be a Canadian living in America, cuz I can leave at any time if I want to (if this terrorist BS keeps up)

Has anyone here encountered, or heard of any road gaps in Japan ? it'd be backcountry - most likely. by road gap, i mean a jump off a cliff, perpendicular to, and over a road, to a landing on the other side of the street. If so has anyone hit it ? we have a few here in the States - Mt. Baker's is the famous one. I've always wanted to give it a shot.

sure burton's 3D system is dumb as rocks. . . forum's slider system is even dumber - cheap plastic crap looks like it would rip out in a snap. . . but not all burton's use the 3D. My C14's came with both 4 hole and 3D baseplates. -
in ? ? ? what's hot . . . what's not who cares ? just doing whatever you are the best at and have the most fun doing carries over into your attitude, which is what counts if you are concerned about fashion and style - it's all attitude G. there will always be skiers and snowboarders on the mountain. it's those fools with their mini-skis, bigfoots, uniskis and the like that will always be going out of style. werdemup.

global warming. . . and the latening of seasons. we're several weeks behind schedule here in the US. at least there is some snow in hokkaido. Colorado is melting. and there is no snow here in Wisconsin. We're usually covered by this point. such a drag. and pres bush didn't sign the kyoto treaty, it's only going to get worse. . going to have to move to Alaska.

So what's goofy then?
barok replied to dick's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
if you ride naturally, with your right foot forward, you ride goofy-foot. if this is you then you would ride switch with your left foot forward. you would be riding "goofy switch," but i don't think anyone really says that. -

Just what is "riding switch"?
barok replied to a topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
yeeeah, riding switch . . . it's really a fundamental of the sport. it's used to describe tricks and style. if somebody pulls off a trick switch, it is that much more impressive than pulling the same trick regular. really nailing switch is one of many rites of passage associated with becoming an "intermediate" rider. . . ya dig -

don't know where the japanese will be. I just know that a japanese company owns whistler and tries to get as many kids out there every year as possible, but when i was there i only saw japanese on the slopes, all i saw in the bar was whitey i'm chillin' here in Madison, Wisconsin, USA which is about as good as it gets within a 16 hour driving radius - ugh. we have some good parks, but not enough vertical for good freeriding, and powder is scarce, yah gotta jump on it. i'm coming out to japan next september and am begging my sponsor to put me in Nagano or Sapporro

just be careful when you go to the shops. on this board, you are getting mostly un-motivated opinions. in the shops they are trying to move product as quick as they can. i've often talked to a sales guy, and he'll recommend product X, which is what the shop makes the most $$$ from, and therefore, what the salesperson makes the most in commission from. but after demonstrating that i've done my homework and that I know that product Y is far superior to X, he'll cave and sing the truth. . . that he's pushing junk to 15 year old kids, and that one day he'll burn f -
Thanks NoFakie, interesting stuff . . . but what interested me most is that you said the number of skiers/boarders is decreasing rapidly. is the demand for hittin' the slopes really decreasing ? is it the tough economic times ? is it just not as crowded on the mountains, as the guidebooks claim ? also what are the pensions ? i've thrown quite a few parties in my day - over 30 raves, club events, concerts and house parties. is it possible for a foreigner to arrange a party at a rented lodge, if one can communicate effectively, or is it better to just go wi

off the top of my head . . . Burton Customs have gotten great reviews, despite being a reasonably priced mid-line bindings. All of Burton's high-end bindings are modelled after the Custom, they just use better materials (Carbon-Fiber) and allow for more adjustment options, but those adjustments are something most riders wouldn't even touch anyway. So yeah - Burton Customs - but so as not to sound like a Burton-groupie. . . Ride's LX and EX bindings are also great and reasonably priced. and from what I understand the Drake F-50's and F-60's are also gr -
