If you really wanted to do the "based in a city and ship out to ski", Nagano beats Otaru hands down. Bigger city, tons of shopping, nice temples and great places like Myoko, Nozawa, SK etc all within an hour or so.

There's one right by the entrance to our place. I hate it. Glaring and seems to be a meeting place for all sorts of flying insects at night. Do not like.

You'll just have to drive to get there. You might look on your home Myoko differently though once you 'taste Mr Granview'.

Just something I'm considering for next season. I thing I remember one or two people saying that they consider places like Niseko (in Hokkaido obviously) to be almost as easy accessible as places like Hakuba (Nagano). Did I just imagine that, or is it so? Just the thought of flights always seems to add ++ time to me.

Any more news on the Mt Granview front?
