i don't search mushrooms neither but it's quiet popular in switzerland! the thing is, the real mushroom season is about end of september and october. so searching mushrooms in august is just to early.... comprendre ??

both ar nice! if you like to ride one day never on the same slope, to let 1500 kids (beginners, in the same ski dress) join the lift and the slope with you and you are not out there 4 party, then go to shiga kogen. if you like big crowds, every day another ski area and a little more party, ten go for hakuba. but both of them are really good!

what does that picture say to us??? "it's just too early to go snowboarding right now" by the way, last week, we got snow in switzerland even in the lower parts a few centimeters !! winter is coming!!!

you can go everywhere snowboarding in early november and your session will be shit! it's almost like searching mushrooms in early august!

hello powpow, if you feel confortable with your stance just leve it like this!!! the problem about fakie or switch riding is that you almost have to learn snowboarding from the begining again. just start on a little steeper slope. (you should allready know how difficult it is to ride, even forward, on a flat way with low speed) so go to an "easy to ride for you" slope and stand still. when you are ready to start (fall) give your wight on the back feet (what is now your front feet, cause you are riding backwards) and turn your head and shoulders in the direction of the turn. just wanted to know what the backcountry is like in niseko, ehm, should we say busy!? is it easily accessible? most of the area is too easy to access! so that will be tracked out after 2 days or so, if you can find some local friends you will see some other verry nice spots! the biggest problems for riding backcountry in niseko is that many of the runs end with a (long) walk trough the snow or your run ends in pretty flat area! i was last year at the end of november in marunuma kogen (i'm not shure about the name). if you like to wait 30 minutes to take a crappy lift for 3 minutes and ride down a 30 meter wide and 300 meter long fake snow slope in the middle of green fields, in 30 seconds, then you should try it!!!!!!!! this is not a joke! (if i have a good day, i will scan a picture about that day) but better is, just to wait untill the real snow is deep enough to ride it!

check the resort and you will see ;-) it was more burton town a few years ago (a japanese friend told me that) but there is still a burton rental shop, a burton snowboard school, a burton shop and (almost) everyone rides burton there.... (not just the board, there are people who wear burton socks, underwear, t shirts, sweater boots, pants, jackets, caps and cloves! plus they have all the little things like keyholders wallets and those little bands for the handyphone.... BUT I HAVE REAL GOOD FRIENDS IN OZE TOKURA !!! cool people out there

if you search a good halfpipe, go for oze tokura (aka, burton town). the area is quite small, but they had last year 3 halfpipes 2 were allways open and one got shaped. there were also some small rails and some kickers scattered all around the slopes. if you like to ride the olympic halfpipe, it's near yudanaka, (close to the place where the monkeys chill in the onsen)

ok that helps! well, if you don't care to meet many mates from your country is it worth to go to niseko. (you might get a little harder in touch with japanese people there) if you go for party in ski areas (such as apres-ski)you better come to switzerland. but compared to the rest of the japanese ski areas is the party life pretty nice in hirafu. if you catch the right week is the powder there one of the best! hey, the highwaytaxes and the trafficjams are the problem!!! i was snowboarding with some tokyo mates last year. we had to start arround 2 or 3 in the morning, drive just trafficjams, and paid alot for highway taxes, arrived , took a litle sleep, and get up on the hill for the first lift. at lunch time everybody crashed... i think its as much expensiv as taking the shinkansen, but more stressful! it might be a little less expensiv when you have a van and you could sleep in your own car. well anyway enjoy riding a car in japan and have a nice winter!

hakuba cortina has some steep 45° paudaa-tree runs! a nice pension there is called hinobou (i'm not shure anymore but i think it was this one!)

hm, arai is a nice place, if you catch it on a weekday after a big dump! never go on weekends, cause the tickets are way more expensiv! (same as the hotel) and there are too many people so the powder hill is verry fast tracked! i like the game center in the bottom station!!
