  1. Happo can be very bad for a newbie boarder if it hasn't snowed because there are many moguls.
  2. I agree it depends on a lot of factors, weather, company, day of the week. I did 4 trips to Hakuba last season. Spent most of time at Goryu/47. My least favourite day was Happo (moguls). My favourites days were at Goryu and Tsugaike. That was based purely on the snow conditions. Also the coupon for cortina makes it a worthy contender too.
  3. Watching youtube while on the dunny.
  4. Tateyama looks amazing on the webcam this morning.
  5. Saw a drop test on youtube for the ipad air. Be careful with them, the one i saw spider-webbed the screen with a drop face down onto soft dirt.
  6. I did this drive a few times last season. I have snow tyres but no chains, also my car is a pajero junior(mini) so its selective 4wd only. I did the drive in December, January, February and March and the only time i used 4WD was in Jan and Feb. The highway is pretty staight forward and you should be fine with snow tyres. The drive north from Hakuba to the Hokuriku highway can be a bit sketchy. I took this route twice because of the chou highway being closed in Jan. The most direct route is the chou from Nagoya. If you are renting a car you can request snow tyres for a small additional fee.
  7. Not sure how accurate it is. This was in spring at the end of a 30 day season so I had plenty of confidence. pretty much straight lining down most of the fresh groomers. Ive also seen a friend clock around 110km/h with the same app.
  8. Yea me too. I will be heading back there again this year. I hope its just as good.
  9. Monkey Hill is good but I prefer the one from Daimonji-yama (behind Ginkakuji).
  10. After visiting Kiyomizu head north(right) instead of going back down to the main road there is a narrow pathway that leads down some stairs and along a street wtith more boutique type shops. There are also a couple more very nice temples in this area. If you wanted to spend a day visting temples I think its a good area to see a few with having to waste half your day traveling around on buses from one side of the city to the other.
  11. I uploaded some photos of one of my sessions last year. I cant embed the photos on my phone. I will fix them later when i get home from work.
  12. Maybe they changed it. It was about 100 yen last year. Still free or paid I would recommend it. Made for some fun spring boarding with my mates seeing who could record the fastest max speed.
  13. I use ski tracks too. Its definitely worth the 100yen or so it costs.
  14. Last season (12-13) did start early but it felt like it ended early too. From what I remember March was a pretty dry month. I was in Hakuba around mid-March and it was very warm and slushy.
  15. Snowkiting - I had to Google that one. Never seen it in Japan, not sure many resorts if any would allow it.
  16. Kyoto is always really busy this time of year. Normally with a young family the bus would be a good option but with the crowds I would probably them. Even if you can get on the bus when its not too busy if it fills up it can be a mission to get off. The subway doesn't get as crowded but also doesn't go to as many of the popular tourist spots. I think a good option would be taking a taxi to whichever temple you want to visit, then walk/see the temples in that area. Most of the taxis work on flat rate for the first 2 km so they are still more expensive than the bus but can be a lot more comfort
  17. I have a nexus 10 and think its great. I think the integration with windows based systems is much better than ipad/iphone with windows.
