Slightly personal question, but how is it that you or others have 30+ days to spend each year on a massive ski trip? Independently wealthy? Student? I'm genuinely jealous and guessing my plan of investing in lottery tickets may not be the best course of action.

I will be going with my family next week for about 4 days in Kyoto. Wife is 6+ months pregnant and we have a 15 month old running around. Any suggestions on best places to go and see? We will likely go to a few temples but the kid will likely be grumpy after too many. While I don't mind walking everywhere, the wife and her ankles likely won't enjoy that.

Wife is due with second child in mid January which is good, but will make me miss a big chunk of the season. I will have to console myself with some day trips to Appi, Hakkoda and Naqua Shirakami.

Any resorts in Iwate or Aomori prefecture participate in giveaways?

So, my news skis arrived on Christmas eve, now we are getting 7+ inches of snow tonight. Hopefully work will be delayed/cancelled so I can break them in.

Because an acronym for Armed forces Postal Office is too obscure? Deadlymonkey, I warrantee you that the package did not go UPS. Your APO is a P.O. box; UPS cannot deliver mail to a P.O. box. This has happened to me before; I get a UPS number but in reality it went USPS. Again (for clarity because I have not had enough coffee on my system) the only people that can deliver to your APO is USPS, all others will not even try. I ordered some new skis through skis.com a couple days ago. Their shipping policy stated that they shipped to APO/FPO addresses vis USPS, which is great since that takes about 10 days to arrive. After ordering I got a UPS tracking number. Not Good!. UPS and FEDEX don't deliver to APO/FPO so they dump their packages on the USPS in california. USPS then ships them parcel post on the literal slow boat to Japan. Delivery time: 45 days +. Think I'm going to reorder from another company that ships USPS first class, and return the UPS ski as soon as they arrive rather than keep them for t

I live in Japan in Aomori and really am looking forward to skiing a bunch this season. Last year I did all the Northern Honshu hotspots, looking forward to exploring Hokkaido and maybe a trip or two further south.

Added, suprised there aren't more people from Aomori prefecture.

I really hope this is true. Aomori had an amazing winter last year in regards to snowfall. I'm hoping for even more than that this year.
