Snow Origins
MagSeven replied to Tachypsychia's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I was really lucky as a kid that my parents were (still are) keen skiers. I started when I was 4 and went every year till I turned 18 and left school. Then worked for a few seasons in the French Alps and one in Whistler before and after uni. Then got a real job, a girlfriend who became the wife, bought a house and kind of resigned myself to being just a week or two a year skier. Then decided to sack that in, quit our jobs and head to the snow again. I'd always wanted to ski Japan, so we applied for JET, requested a Hokkaido placement, got it and have been here for 3 and a half years now. L -

Looks like we're in for some decent snow up here over the weekend. But it's going to be accompanied by strong winds, and probably the resultant lift closures. Sucks for us weekend warriors! -

Teine? -
Be careful with that. Would your insurance pay out if you had left the windows and doors open? Especially after broadcasting the fact on the internet? In my experience (admittedly not in Australia), insurance companies will have small print stating that all possible measures must be taken to secure a property, or the insurance will be invalid. Hence policy premiums are cheaper if you have alarms/sophisticated locks etc.

Wow you're really getting around Hokkaido. Great photos! If you're still in that neck of the woods, I recommend fish and chips by the harbour at Utoro. -

Teine was incredible on Monday. -
Nothing to be seen beyond bowl 3 though - not worth looking I reckon! Just arrived back in Hokkaido after a couple of weeks in the UK. Will be up at Teine a fair bit from now on. But mostly on the pistes, they're definitely the best bit.
