http://www.aintnowaytogo.com/japRock.htm Sounded pretty horrific. Not a nice way to go. -

& how did you get on MagSeven??? It went alright thanks Mick, the Mrs and I got round in a slow and steady 4:22 (was aiming for 4:30) and I really enjoyed it believe it or not. It was my first, but I don't think it'll be my last. The bonus was that I've had a great ski season this winter as I was in good shape from the start thanks to the marathon training through the autumn! -

Weekend off the snow for me. Heading down to Tokyo for the marathon on Sunday. (seemed like a good idea last summer!) -
Safety bars on ski lifts
MagSeven replied to muikabochi's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Said it before. Will say it again. My favourite part about wearing a helmet is all the head eggs I DONT have when some moron donks the safety bar on while people are still loading. Your head's 50% bigger with a helmet on. You get donked on the helmet because of the helmet I reckon. -
I'm an ALT. Been here 18 months or so now and love it. If only we had bigger hills! I skinned up the Bibai ski jo in December before it opened and went over the back up one of the taller hills behind, was alot of fun. Iwamizawa certainly got pounded over the weekend. I was driving back from Niseko Sunday late avo/early eve and the conditions were really sketchy. Traffic has been terrible since then as so many of the roads are down to one lane with few passing places.

Hokkaido 2012
MagSeven replied to Tal06's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Yeah, that section from Yubari to Shimkappu has been kinda finished but not actually open for quite a while. But recently I have seen road signs around the place saying its open, so I guess they've finally got their act together! If its not open, then it's the 274 through Hidaka, which takes ages and winds it's way round the valleys underneath the empty expressway! -

If you're heading to Teine at a weekend, let me know as I'll probably be there and would be happy to show you around! -
This is the town that I live in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/feeds/16599168 http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=record_snow_fall_sweeps_nort_170112 Sunday/Monday's snow broke all kinds of records. And a couple of shovels when I was digging out my parking space on Monday night! We have two local ski hills, which have blower pow at the mo, although you do need to straightline from the top to get any speed. Never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad to see blue sky, and a couple of snowless days in the forecast!

2012 Hokkaido trip
MagSeven replied to yamabushi's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Mashike route up to Shokanbetsu-dake is a great hike/tour. The west coast around Rumoi gets so much snow! I skied up at Shokanbetsu in July last year! And they have a lovely sake brewery (distillery/winery!?) at Mashike. -

I'm hearing that ski patrol are a bit more mellow this season with people ducking ropes? Any truth in that? -
Ski demo days in Niseko?
MagSeven replied to anything's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
In March last year I saw a demo of this years Line Skis, so I guess it happens! Don't know details of when though I'm afraid. There was a tent and a load of demo skis set up at the bottom of the Ace Quad.
