The gozaimaas experience
MagSeven replied to gozaimaas's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Good work! Spread the craze! Gozaimaas, is that glide crack heading down from the East gondy? Ducking the rope skiers right of Super East course? Saw a lot of holes/cracks in there at the weekend. -
I was lucky enough to win one of the giveaways (thanks again SnowJapan!) for a Tomamu daypass, so I'll be using that. Then I'm going to check out Sahoro as well. I've been meaning to head over that way for ages now, so I'm looking forward to checking out some new spots! Forecast looks quite good for the weekend, so fingers crossed! Photos and a report will be up on Sunday night. (Well, maybe Monday morning. Ok, maybe Tuesday.)

HAHAHAHAHA! Now that is funny! My friends and I were doing our best to photobomb as many of the GoPros we could! (Sorry!) I've emailed that pic to a couple of them. I just won GoProBombing. Also, I think you were maybe on the ridge left of bowl 1 behind us at one point, when I was trying to coax my wife off the cornice? Or maybe that was someone else. If it was you, sorry for holding you up! -

Some of the spots in the bowls were so deep! I actually submarined on landing a few drops! Launching: Submarine! Totally under the pow! I rode away from it. Laughing! -

I was up at Teine yesterday too! What an awesome day it was, one of the best I've ever had there. Steep and deep, with lots of fast laps of the bowls. We probably would have crossed paths at some point! -

The general 'Japan earthquake' topic

I have that turned off. Not sure it would do me any good other than panic. I thought I'd turned it off on my phone too to be honest! I guess it's helpful if you're sharp enough to think to turn off your stove or gas, and get away from anything that might fall on you. On Saturday however, we were a fair few beers into the night, so none of that happened! -
I think I might be up that way around that time mate. Would be good to hook up for a few turns Me too... a few turns would be cool. Sweet. Would be great to meet up with you guys. I should be at Kamui with a decent group on Saturday so it'll be a good laugh. Spot the group of gaij, and that'll probably be us. I'm a skier in a red jacket and yellow pants, my name's Andy. Sunday if the weather is kind I'll do Asahidake with the Mrs and a couple of mates. We'll probably try going for a bit of a hike. I'll PM you with my contact details if you'd like.

The general 'Japan earthquake' topic

Yeah, was a fairly strong one. Was at a party, and it was interesting that we all got the earthquake warnings buzzing on our phones, then 20 odd seconds later the shaking started. -
You can get 3 discounts per K-Pass. ZelZel, you actually missed a good one on Saturday. Surprisingly, there was a good amount of snow up there, lots of pow in the bowls, and the place was deserted. Today, not so good. There was tons of new snow, but the wind was too strong, so the summit lift was closed. We went and built a kicker on a roller on the Teine golf course and had a fun jump session overlooking the city!

Olympia - the lower section, can get really busy. And up at Highland there are often alot of ski school groups zig zagging around on the pistes. But you rarely have to wait in a queue for the main Summit Express lift, and once you head off into the trees, you're all good. I generally lap the Summit lift. It's a steep, high speed quad, so you can get alot of runs in. Of course, if you're there on a weekday it's even better! But on a powder day you can get fresh tracks all day even at the weekend.

Hey ZelZel, cool, might see you up there on Saturday. Not sure what time I'll be getting up there as the Mrs wants a lie in! There is a shuttle from Teine JR. You can get a discount on a day pass (which takes it to less than the price of a 5 hr pass) if you know someone who has a K-Pass. I would offer to help, but I already have a couple of friends lined up for our discounts this weekend, sorry! I think there is also some kind of Bus/Pass/Lunch deal floating around, but I've never used it. I'm in a red jacket, yellow pants, fat skis. I'll PM you my cell details if you want to take a few ru

I'm often up at Teine. (Had a great day up there last Saturday) There is alot of off piste, a series of bowls with only a little bit of walking and a traverse back into the ski area. And some fun tree runs within the ropes. Will be up there again this weekend. (Although the weather on Saturday is looking a bit sketchy, the wind might shut down the main Summit Express chair.
