  1. yeah, I reckon the rain goes to the bottom and when it is a grass surface, that makes it easier to slide. meaning full depth slide
  2. Nice one. Certainly the price is attractive compared to the others. Comes with all the hardware, too. And the compartment design in the pack is handy layout . I don´t like carrying packs when riding in general, so I am looking at smaller packs. I read that some of the heli operators don´t like people wearing big packs on board. Not sure if it is more comfty when the pack rides high. I thinks it is better to have the weight near the waist. I don´t ride throwing my upper body around either... But anyways, I´m buying 2 packs so the price is an issue. These equipment are - in fact - high pro
  3. know what you mean, seemore .. I´m with you there If I were to do tree runs, maybe I put on a motocross protector or something.
  4. The whole point of it all is ... You wear it and avoid being hit by an avalanche, not trying it out ! haha
  5. The only thing I can say to that is. `Irrational´ is when someone doesn´t have the head to assess ( statistics, logic, science) that your fear is unfounded. Fear itself is not irrational at all. In fact, it takes us civilized people some training to re-gain the intuition of feeling fear. Tapping into the unconcious. It also takes training to keep still but not freeze under that situation.
  6. Hachi Kita only went there a long time ago, can´t remember ..
  7. Ah, I must add ... We have ridden a lot of boards over the years, some from resort demos One thing that really does effect the ride-ability of the board is width. Forget manufacture stated weight range cos that really depends on one´s ability and ride style. If you are men´s US 8 or womans US 10, you really don´t want a wide board. You have big feet, no problems, you have lots more choices. But in general, waist width under 255mm is a lot easier to ride in overall conditions. If I am carving or there are moguls, a narrower board is much better. The Banger´s dimention is probably close to
  8. Hey, mamabear I´m sure others will give you lots of choices to think about so I will only recommend one, and it is what I will buy my missus considering our current finances ATOMIC BANGER 158 Tip width 297mm Waist width 251mm Tail width 289 mm side curve radius 8.8 m Rider weight 55 - 75 kg Pop Rocker FR - Camber pop between your feet, long floaty rocker tip, and stable mini-rocker tail section. Tapered directional shape Kinetic Core FR - Special honeycomb tip insert to reduce weight Truth 3 light weight wood core 7200 sintered speed base It´s time you get a longer
  9. Mammut, abs, snowpulse .. about 700 Euro (with19% sales tax) Compared to other (extreme) sports equipment like skydiving, paragliding, etc safty backup system (ie, automatic activation device for reserve, ) a reasonable cost for insurance. Snowboarding is not that expensive to kit out. I would consider a back protector equally important for freeriding.
  10. Good insurance policy. But still, survival is not assured ... The best equipment won´t save you. And no, it does not make you float. It is not water. It works on the principal that larger particles do not get sucked under when that particle is in an avalanche running down the mountain. If you are at the end of the avalanche´s travel path, you just get covered over ... well, you get hit with a high velocity huge mass ...bye bye
  11. ....but seriously I remember when I was that age, I used to jump off all sorts of things. (Very well known at the local hospital ) I would have hated being caught, reason, I wouldn´t trust them. They could dislocate my shoulder if an arm when into my arm pit. I can bounce off and land in a strange position. I was perfectly dropping straight ... Stupid grown ups. They think they know best. dum dums
  12. Does anyone dig a pit in Japan? Don´t see people digging one in Europe. Usually we rely on Avi reports and their pit analysis. Keeping a track on weather everyday (temp, wind, etc) is necessary to arrive at an educated guess. But more importantly, I need to know what is under the snow. Grass hill? tree stumps? terrain ... When I know what it´s like before it get´s covered by snow ...
  13. Man, that is sooo close. Glad you made it out. Could have happened to any one of us. We do have a false sense of security because we get familiarised ...
  14. That's a hay bale Jynxx....that isn't going to do shit except get in the way. No one has a pack on them....thus no knife. What they did was the only thing they could have done. Personal safety...?....Sometimes you just have to step up. Haybale is fine. Better than hard pack. Kids take falls well. It´s not that high. Just drop him on it.
  15. ice hockey is cool. On the seroius note, a good reminder and points out no go area ... I think carrying a mobile is compulsory. and a walkie-talkie with your mates ... I am even thinking of flare guns What piece of equipment could have helped in that situation? Ice pick?
  16. What happened there ? You didn´t see the tree because of the faceshots, spray ...? (white on white, perfect camo)
  17. Very clumsy rescue effort without thinking about personal safety. And no particular person in charge. SEE that thing rapped around the tower ? That´s a cushion. What´s it for ? year, right ... You can cut that off and put it underneath but so many heads doesn´t make them bright .
  18. Shit mate... check your helmet and possibly replace it. I wonder snowboard helmets are like motorbike helmets? Replace it after you have a hit. I think you better get padded up. Got anything from your hockey days I don´t have the nerve for trees ... I have this weird feeling that ...my head and body clears the tree, but my knee might bangs into it...
  19. Ain´it cool .. I keep on watching it over. My favorite at the moment. Since I wrote some analysis of gozaimas, it´s only fair to comment on BM´s. What makes his riding style unique is he makes it look easy ... well actually he is really working his board but he does it so relaxed you don´t notice it. What I found useful, and it is a solution for ippy and me with the crud, is that he is constantly doing floaters.. I am not talking toilet lingo here, floater is how you skim the surfboard over mashed up aerated, bubbly surf. To me, this is how he rides a fish and the advantage of the fish i
  20. Japan post is the best BUT problem with size. Rob can send stuff to UK up to 1.5m length Aussies and Yanks can only send up to 1.05m back home. booo
  21. Here we go ...BM´s signature laid back chill But the man is basically straight lining in the trees . This is fast riding It´s amazing he doesn´t get snagged by branches and goes over a hidden one under the pow .. I´m sure he knows his trees and done this a few times BUT very narrow trees he charges into .. Mybe there is something similar with surfboards and the Fish ... it´s happening and it´s great to see it on vid. You guy´s had a ball ! Your missus is rockin ! Hell her it´s cool and no OSEJI
  22. Buried 5m deep No chance. I wonder how they found him. Most people carry probes 2m length, some up to 3m Good decision to abandon the search. Let´s be careful out there.
