  1. Thanks for that Wizz, very helpful! Actually, the big G is very much on my radar for the coming week - watch this space!! Yes I know I've said this many times before!
  2. Have just snagged one of the last seats on tonight's nightbus to Myoko Suginohara! Any tips for a Myoko newbie?? Have read the reviews but any extra/insider/local info would be gratefully received!!
  3. Let's Myoko (suginohara)!!! Booked, paid for and now champing at the bit to go!! Thanks for all of the advice guys!
  4. No thanks!!! Can we please have some piccies to go with those stereotypes!? & any thoughts on my Myoko news???
  5. Not a big fan of Prince (the hotel group, not the purple guy) but the New Prince at Furano looks fairly modern though it's ugly as, and totally out of keeping with its surroundings unlike, ironically, the Alpine-themed Prince hotel that it superseded over on the Kitanomine side of the resort! Not that I've ever stayed at either ;-) Back to topic, I'll be up in Hakuba at that time if you change your plans and fancy meeting up :-)
  6. Have just found a seat on a Myoko-bound bus leaving at 11pm tonight!! 9,300Yen worth spending????? Looks like they've had a bit of snow up there too - decisions, decisions!
  7. That's brilliant info Gary, thanks a lot!! I want to stay at the Wadagoya Mountain Hut but as you say, it's not going to be worth it if I can't ride the top lifts and therefore the top tree runs!!
  8. According to the Snow Japan Route Finder, 203.162 km! But I now have a cunning plan to visit Kagura on Monday or Tuesday in which case I'll just be down the road!! In the meantime I'm going to make a final attempt to book something tomorrow for Friday, either by nightbus or shink!!
  9. For some reason I can't seem to use the quote function tonight but u-tan, I've used nightbuses a few times from Shinjuku and as Peetan says, it's difficult to sleep on the way! A combination of a decent breakfast and adrenaline keeps me going during the day and then a tired body and a few beers from the resort shop/vending machine (remembering that you can't buy them from the service area shops) makes me sleep on the way back!! I've never done an early morning bus trip and never would, because you'd lose the best part of the day. Hopefully I'm going to take another nightbus tomorrow night!
  10. Well my local Teco Plaza drew a blank, with all 3 of my choices sold out for Friday!! Onto plan B, or should that be plan G!?
  11. I'd forgotten about GALA! Obviously my radar has been skewed by the other resort beginning with G!! I'd be tempted to go there if I knew the Southern Area was going to be open.
  12. Am having the same problem Peetan!!! Looks like everyone else is looking at the weather forecasts too!!
  13. Was just about to start a new topic but this one ties in with the following question:- How windy does it have to be before the Kagura top lifts close? I know that this is one of those "how long is a piece of string questions" questions but I'm thinking about hitting Kagura on Monday and 50-55km/h winds are forecast.
  14. Thanks for all the advice guys! Right, taking on board what's been said and looking at the forecasts, it looks as though the Fukushima resorts are going to be too windy, I'm now conjuring up a separate plan for the Paradise Alley resorts (which may involve something beginning with G!), which leaves Myoko, Madarao and Togari, costing 9,000, 7,800 and 7,400 respectively. Am leaning towards the middle option but will head over to my local Teco Plaza and see what's available!!
  15. Thanks David! I really should spend more time looking for things rather giving up after 10 seconds!! Am now going to make a cup of tea and have a look at all of the forecasts!
  16. Hey Metabo, where are you looking for that weather info??
  17. Thanks guys! Perhaps I should change my riding day to Monday?? That reminds, on the old site there was a really useful 7-day weather/snow forecast option on the Daily Reports but I can't see to find that on the new version - is that option no longer available??
  18. Nothing to do with over-priced American diners but rather, my plan to hit the slopes again this Friday. Looks like there might be a bit of fresh snow about, so I'm aiming at taking one of the cheap 'n' cheerful nightbuses from Shinjuku on Thursday night. The 6 million Yen question is, where should I go?? I'm not helping matters by wanting to go to a resort that I've never been to before, so looking at my trusty nightbus brochure, and in no particular order, I'm thinking of one of the following:- 1. Gran Deco; 2. Maiko; 3. Togari; 4. Adatara; 5. Madarao; 6. Myoko. Any suggestions,
  19. Would tend to agree with Tubby, as I live in Kanagawa but am only 30 mins by train from Shibuya, so can make do with a bmx rather than a car ;-) As for the 2 places you mentioned, I think the Hakuba valley gives you plenty of choices (resorts, accommodation, restaurants, etc) and although I've never been there, I've heard some good things about Nozawa! So both get my vote!
