Just a bit of snow yesterday on the mountain and while there wasn't really much 'overnight', as we got into this morning it has been snowing heavily and it has been really coming down at times. Visibility on the slopes this morning - especially higher ones - looks to be generally somewhat limited - and I am hearing there's some windy conditions as well on upper areas. Happo have their top lifts on hold at the moment and the top part of the Tsugaike gondola is also on hold. Hakuba Goryu seems unaffected just now but Line C quad and Line E pair at Hakuba 47 are also on hold. Heavy snow is forecast through the day today with it probably getting lighter as we get into tomorrow and then perhaps some clearer skies around Tuesday; but more snow is lined up for later in the week. Things feel more like normal now and it's good to see Happo-one showing all their lower areas open at last. If we could now just get some days in where there's no complications or drama (mostly wind now that we have our snow), I'd really like that! Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall at base and 20cm up top. All courses are now open. The lower part of the Tree Riding Zone is now open. Please see my report yesterday for more information on that. There is no 'nighta' at Hakuba 47. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba where we have more snowfall piling up... Yes things are looking better by the day now with another 20-30cm of fresh snow being reported by resorts (upper areas) around the valley this morning. It may not be the lightest driest snow there is - a bit on the heavier side than that - but still we need those cm and there were a lot of happy people around playing in it yesterday. The stronger winds of early yesterday morning aren't causing much problems this morning (Alps 3 lift at Goryu affected?), and it's just generally cloudy at the moment though more snow is forecast. If the forecast is right, heavy snow tonight. More lifts and runs are also opening up, I see some of the lower slopes of Happo-one seem to be available. Don't forget to check the resort-specific information that has been updated below (every day). It should be a great day out there on the slopes and some fine conditions to find. I'm off to get a taste if it myself. Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall at base and 30cm up top. All courses are now officially open. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba and welcome to February. Some more snow to report with up to 5cm at base levels and some resorts reporting 10-15cm higher up. It's on the wet side again though - down here at least - not the light and fluffy variety that we love best. Once again, a full investigation seems to be required by me going up and checking! Snow was still falling earlier on when I first got up but seems to be clearing - here in the village anyway, it may well be still snowing higher up... a quick look at the webcams shows limited visibility out there in some areas right now. We're expecting conditions to clear up during the day today so I think visibility will improve as well. It's a chilly -3C at 9am with the temperature probably rising to just around zero point during the day. There's a decent chance of sun and clearer skies tomorrow and if you are looking for the next decent snowfall then the end of the week is probably when you should be here. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Ah yes it is a good morning! With resorts around the valley this morning reporting 20-30cm on upper slope areas and a good 10cm reported from base areas, it should be great conditions out there early on. Though the snow has stopped falling now, there's still a lot of cloud around and what looks like poor visibility on the webcams in some places - perhaps it's still snowing up there, or just that just gas/cloud? I will have to get up there myself to investigate! The Happo-one image looks especially good right now with the lift rising above the sea of clouds hanging over the village (see photo below). On the subject of Happo-one, their 'Happo Banks' snow park is opening up from this morning with event-style things going on from 9:30am. It can be found over on the Kita One Number 3 area. The forecast has cloud for the day today with the chance of more snow tomorrow night. Wind isn't an issue today and so resorts should be all open as normal, though actually I just noticed that a few courses at Tsugaike Kogen are closed due to 'adverse weather' - I'm presuming that is a visibility issue though not sure. From Monday there isn't much snow on the forecast through until at least the later part of the week so we might have to make do. If temperatures remain low we should be good though. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning to you from Hakuba, where there has been another 15cm of fresh snow fall by my place since my report yesterday morning. It was really coming down hard at times yesterday. Lots of big grins on faces. It was quite funny meeting other locals, where the conversation was almost always something along the lines of 'now this feels more like normal'. I'm a bit confused by the new snowfall numbers the resorts are talking about this morning as they are less than what fell in my back garden and seen by my own eyes. Anyway, the numbers are all in the respective places below. (Perhaps some of them are just reporting what fell overnight - which was 0cm here at base). Wind is still an issue this morning unfortunately with only the lower areas of Happo-one open, and the top areas of Goryu/47 and Tsugaike Kogen also affected at the time of writing this report. Hopefully that will ease off and they can get open. After all, with all this fresh snowfall everyone is very keep to get up there and start enjoying it. Today should be a very good day. And heavy snowfall is expected over the weekend. Happo-one got their night skiing going last night on the Nakiyama slopes. Good to hear. Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 0-5cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. Currently the Line E lifts is on hold with Route 8 not yet open. Tree Riding Zone not yet open for the season. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was a fine day yesterday though after the beautiful blue sky start to the day, clouds started appearing from around lunchtime. This morning it is snowing and there has been a few cm down at base areas with resorts generally reporting about 5cm on the mountain so far. Hakuba 47 are actually describing the snow up top this morning as having a 'creamy feel', rather than powder... not quite sure what to make of that one! So it's snowing now and it is expected to be falling through the day, and heavily at times too. In fact there's currently a heavy snow warning out for the region so we could be on for a decent amount over the next 24 hours. That sounds good to me. I will be sure to let you know about it all in my report tomorrow. For now resorts all appear to be open as planned, there's not much of a wind and it's not actually that cold - here in the village anyway where the temperature is currently hovering around 0C. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba and we have had some decent snowfall the last few days... the kind we'd like most days of the season! Hakuba 47 were reporting 15cm of fresh snow up at 1450m point yesterday afternoon and that sounds about right for the day. Other resorts this morning also reporting numbers around 10cm. While I do prefer myself to be out there on a clear and sunny day in terms of weather, fresh snow is more important than the weather and so I was more than happy to be out in the snow yesterday morning... as were many other people I'm sure. It did clear up somewhat at times in the afternoon but generally kept cloudy. Unfortunately the snowfall didn't continue through the night and this morning, so there's no further build up to report. This morning there's lots of cloud and gas around still around the mountains. I see some of the webcams show very limited visibility out there while others are much clearer. If anything it is probably going to be clearer as the day goes on today and we might end up enjoying some sunshine. Tomorrow clear skies and sun are expected, but after that the prospect of 'heavy snow' on the forecast is looking rather exciting. It looks like there's a worrying warm up due later in the week but let's ignore that for now and just enjoy the conditions today, look forward to a fine weather day tomorrow and then that heavy snow on Tuesday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba where we have some fresh snowfall for the beginning of the weekend. It has been snowing pretty good as well this morning. 5cm on the ground so far and resorts around the valley are reporting generally 10cm of fresh on mountain, with Hakuba 47 going up to 20cm. If it carries on snowing like this the cm will soon be adding up as well. This is what we like! With heavy snow falling especially on upper areas of resorts, expect limited visibility at times - but some very nice conditions! I'm sure people will be able to accept the visibility thing - just be sure to know where you're going. This snowfall is forecast to ease off during the day today. Or is it? The below forecast gives us heavy snow tonight, while others say just cloudy. Who knows. Let's just see - and in the meantime enjoy the moment. And yes, it is snowing this morning with resorts already reporting up to 5cm on slopes and 5cm here in the village as well. Coming down nicely too, let's hope it can keep on coming. Moderate to heavy snowfall forecast for today and hopefully still snowing into tomorrow, so let's see how much we can get to report tomorrow morning. The weekend forecast still shows some alarmingly warm temperatures along with rain due as the freezing line rises to above 3000m. Yikes. We can certainly be doing without any of that lot! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It was very warm up on the mountain even yesterday. Hakuba 47 said that as of 3pm at 1450m, it was 9C. Fine weather for the day really with quite a bit of cloud around, but it felt more like April than mid February. This morning as I write this it's +3C here at base and I'm afraid it's going to get really warm again, busting through into double digits down here in the village. And to add to that, drizzly rain is falling. We can expect this sad story to continue until later on in the day tomorrow but as we enter Monday it should quickly be getting much colder and we should be seeing new cm of snow piling up once again. A short report as not many words needed today for a change: Hakuba Cortina is reporting 80cm (eighty) of fresh snow this morning and all of the major resorts reporting numbers above 50cm, there's been over 30cm down in the village too. Now this is more like it and what we expect! I have to dispatch this report before lifts are open but there may well be disruptions this morning with the weather still doing it's big snow storm thing. Just be extra careful out there with so much sudden snowfall and visibility - though it may well clear up mid day. Sun is expected tomorrow so it should be excellent, then we've got the strange warming up and rain still on the radar for the weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A fine day again yesterday weather-wise, just getting warm and toasty once again leaving us with fairly wet and heavy snow conditions on lower areas in particular. It is a cloudy start to this Saturday morning here in Hakuba and a temperature of +2C at 8:30am. I would expect fairly icy snow conditions early on but things should loosen up fairly quick as the temperatures rise further. Today we are expecting a high of around 6 degrees in the village and rain/sleet to move in from the south. Different forecasts have different details but let's hope that we can avoid the 'heavy rain' that some of them threaten. Thankfully even that shouldn't be too prolonged though with snow due overnight, so hopefully I'll have good snow news in my report tomorrow morning. The forecast over the coming week is fairly promising with a return to mid-winter like temperatures and heavy snow due around Tuesday into Wednesday. It's the 46th Fire Festival at Happo-one tonight, starting at 7:30pm over at the Nakiyama area of the resort. Weather: please be friendly! I have mentioned this before, but if you are new to our reports and indeed new to Hakuba, please do take a bit of time to look back at previous season reports to get a good idea of how a season usually goes.
