- Hakuba Now: Wednesday 31st December 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 276cm Posted on Wednesday 31st December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Some varying reports on snowfall this morning from around the valley and it looks like Hakuba 47 are reporting the most. Lots of snow higher up it would seem. Differing numbers aside, let's just go with.... lots. Poor visibility out. Safety first. A heavier kind of snow yesterday, but lighter snow has fallen overnight so it should make for very good conditions this morning. It was only snowing lightly as well when I got up this morning but coming down with purpose once again now. Good to fill in the tracks, not so good if you want the views as well. One local forecast says it should be sunny this afternoon. Doesn't feel like it will as things are now, but you never know. Heavy snow is forecast for tonight into tomorrow. It should be getting much colder as well... those who have arrived in Hakuba might be tricked into thinking that it doesn't get that cold with the curiously and relatively mild conditions at the moment even with the snow coming down. It's set to drop tonight into tomorrow quite considerably. Looks like it's going to be a very snowy New Year and a fine way to see out the old and in with the new. Start how we mean to carry on, I say! I hope that you enjoy your last day of 2014. I have 'duties' tonight (honest!) which means that my report tomorrow may well be late, for which I apologise in advance. --- Remember, I'm updating the info below every day as much as possible so keep your eye on those bits for resort-specific info! --- Official snow depth numbers and operations as of 31st December 2014. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning from Hakuba where we have lots of new snowfall. Unfortunately for me I have to head into Nagano City this morning but for those venturing out onto the mountains, it should be a good one to say the least. Lots of different numbers to report from around the skijo - Hakuba 47 said they had 35cm of fresh up at Line C yesterday afternoon... and another 35cm this morning. If I'm not mistaken, that makes for 70cm up there. Tasty. Happo-one was also reporting over 50cm on upper slopes. This morning Cortina is posting 20-30cm and Hakuba Goryu is reporting 30cm up on Alps Daira. Down at base here I have at least 20cm outside my place. Hopefully you should get the picture - there should be lots of fresh everywhere this morning. Top conditions to enjoy. Just be careful out there and put on your best goggles to maximise vision... visibility limited once again this morning. This morning so far it's been snowing on and off but heavy snow possible today and tonight too. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 443cm Posted on Friday 13th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . About 5cm of snow on the ground and it's coming down nicely just now as I sit here writing this report. Looking like it's going to be poor visibility out on the slopes, or certainly most of them, this morning, and with moderate to heavy snowfall due to continue I think that's going to be the story today. The price we must pay for the goods! Going to keep cold for the day too, and a real contrast with the relative warmth of yesterday which felt almost spring-like - and so did the snow in places as well. Don't want to even mention that word just yet! Luckily, we're back to winter today. The snow and cold should continue through tomorrow maybe easing off as we get into Sunday. Look for some decent numbers being reported tomorrow morning! Should be a good weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A very good morning to you from a snowy and cold Hakuba. It was very cold through the day yesterday with a bit of snowfall on the mountains, and then some heavy snowfall overnight. Cortina once again reporting 30-40cm of fresh but Hakuba Goryu wins the 'most snow reported' award this morning with 50cm up on the Alps Daira top area up there. Happo and 47 also reporting a good 25-30cm as well, so we are spoilt for choice this morning. Not a good day for scenery though as the snow continues to fall and it's generally very visibility out there. Cold too. Need the right goggles and gear this morning. Forecast telling us to expect it to not last much longer today, and we might get a clearer and sunny day tomorrow with temps rising into low positive numbers. It's a national holiday as well tomorrow, so good timing there. More snowfall is due after that though, late Friday going into the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 438cm Posted on Wednesday 11th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and after that big delivery of snow to report yesterday morning, not much to add to that this morning. Though it must be noted that there were huge amounts of fun and excitement had between then and now of course! Conditions should be great this morning too. Earlier this morning there was quite a bit of blue sky to see, but since then the clouds have taken control of the skies and it's just generally cloudy now over the valley. We are expecting the sun today though as well as mild - slightly warm - conditions later today and tomorrow morning. Get ready for more cold and more importantly much more snow though... later on in the day tomorrow (night?) into Friday and into Saturday is looking like it might deliver in a big way. Today is a holiday in Japan - National Foundation Day - so that's why it'll surely be busier than a normal mid weekday. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Wednesday 11th February 2015. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 483cm Posted on Sunday 15th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Nice day yesterday weather wise; a really great day in terms of snow conditions. Just rather windy causing some top lift disruption. Snow started again coming down with real conviction in the evening yesterday and we have a lot more snow this morning to give us what should be an excellent reset for today. Goryu and 47 this morning are reporting a cool-sounding half a metre of fresh on their upper slopes. The bottom line... tons of fresh snow. How does that sound? Limited visibility this morning as the snow continues to fall but it's curiously not that cold this morning - about -1C now here in the village. Thankfully it seems to be less windy as well so hopefully that won't cause an issue today. That's about it. We're all very excited about the fresh snow, but most importantly remember to keep safe and careful out there. The Happo-one Fire Festival went ahead last night in the heavy snow. Always a good mix for a festival, snow and fire. Lots of people turned up for some festival fun...I heard a number of 2000. --- Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 50cm of new snowfall at Alps may open late due to heavy snowfall. - Hakuba Now: Friday 20th February 2015
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 494cm Posted on Friday 20th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Another fairly mild morning in Hakuba but happy to report some fresh snow on the ground and varying amounts being reported by the resorts. I'm particularly interested in that +40cm that Hakuba Norikura resort seem to be reporting this morning... Lots of cloud around this morning and there's some spectacular cloud scenery from the higher slopes of Happo-one with the lift rising above the clouds. So want to be there right now! Variable visibility depending on where you are especially with these changing conditions. We should get some more snow today - there's even a heavy snowfall warning out for the region this morning - before the skies clear up for sunny conditions tomorrow and continued warming up on Sunday along with... a good (or is that 'bad') chance of rain. Once we get past that, we can hope for a quick return to colder conditions. --- Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 10cm of new snowfall at Alps Daira and 10cm at Toomi. - Hakuba Now: Wednesday 18th February 2015
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 484cm Posted on Wednesday 18th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It has started snowing again this morning. Just a dusting on the ground so far, but hopefully the start of a decent amount over the next few days. Coming down nicely just now as I'm typing this. May it continue!! Conditions getting wet and heavy in some lower places along with that bit of 'dust on crust' thing going on this morning until we get a decent layer of fresh. Better snow conditions found the higher up you go as we wait for the new snow to freshen things up. Limited visibility on the slopes this morning pretty much wherever you chose by the looks of the webcams. It's keeping quite mild with the temperature hovering around freezing just now, so just what will happen weather wise today and tomorrow is of real interest. Anyway I hope to be able to bring some good news tomorrow morning. --- Hakuba Goryu: Reporting 2cm of new snowfall at Alps Daira and 5cm at Iimori. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 507cm Posted on Saturday 28th February 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba on this last day of February. Can you believe that?! Snow during the day yesterday, Hakuba 47 reporting 20cm of it up there, and just a bit more overnight with snow on the ground this morning. This morning resorts reporting varying amounts of snow as noted below... Cortina 20cm, Goryu 10cm, Happo 10cm... there should be some fresh to find out this morning. It feels quite cold as well and while there is still a lot of cloud around, forecasts tell us to expect sun today and the skies to clear with a high of around +3C later this afternoon. Something should be falling by tomorrow afternoon again - hopefully snow. Stay cold please! Have a fun Saturday.
