Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 747cm Weather overview Snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Monday 25th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Well yesterday was a bit of a mad one. With only the Mitsumata area of Kagura open, terrain was limited but the snow was of course excellent. It kept on snowing as well and by the time people were ready to finish up for the day traffic on Route 17 was in gridlock. Took more than a few people quite a long time to get back to the train station in Yuzawa and the Interchange. This morning Kagura is reporting yet another 40cm of new snowfall. And it's still snowing. And.... today all areas of Kagura will be open. Well, the main Kagura bit up to the main quad lift. Here in Naeba we have stronger winds persisting this morning which may well affect some lifts, though it looks like the resort plans to have the Number 2 Gondola operating. This has probably been one of the most snow-receiving winter storms of the season. Not bad at all for late February. Bottomless, anyone?! ;) Snow conditions could hardly be better, even if we tried to imagine it and the lucky folk going up there this morning will surely be in for a treat. Just be careful where you go and don't overdo it, you could very easily get buried in the snow. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 320cm Kagura - 390cm Incredibly, we're still on '390cm', even though we've had close to 2m of snow fall within the last 6 days! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 722cm Weather overview Snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Sunday 24th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Yet another 30cm of snow this morning, but also strong winds. Only the Mitsumata bit of Kagura is open I'm afraid, so greatly limiting up there for the Sunday folk making the trip. The only compensation being that there should be tons of fresh and particularly spectacular snow up there. (Ignore the official snow depth numbers and lack of increases!) 20-30cm here in Naeba and the Gondolas and top lifts are on hold here too. So, all limited today. Things should calm down a bit tomorrow and then clearer conditions due Tuesday. Apparently I am hearing that the Kanetsu Expressway is closed from Tsukiyono in Gunma to Shiozawa Ishiuchi in Niigata and so if you are on the way up and reading this and planning on coming through to Yuzawa, know that you'll be getting off at Tsukiyono. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 320cm Kagura - 390cm Naeba Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Sunday 24th February 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 722cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed on 1 day 60cm (10th December) November 2012 snowfall 3cm observed on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 219cm observed on 15 days January 2013 snowfall 283cm observed on 19 days February 2013 snowfall 217cm observed on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Naeba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 697cm Weather overview Cloud, snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Not so good Posted on Saturday 23rd February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Welcome to the weekend. And it should be a good one. 20cm or so of fresh here in Naeba and 30cm up at Kagura. Add that to what we have got during the week and you get a good picture. Good and cold too and so it's going to keep. Whats more, it's contining to snow. Race you up for the first runs! A moderate wind this morning but it looks like all of the areas plan to be opening up as planned this morning. Probably going to be Tuesday before the snow clouds completely vacate the area, so expect more of the same over the next few days. To me that sounds like timely refils of tracks. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 320cm Kagura - 390cm Naeba Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Saturday 23rd February 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 697cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 51 days Most snowfall observed on 1 day 60cm (10th December) November 2012 snowfall 3cm observed on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 219cm observed on 15 days January 2013 snowfall 283cm observed on 19 days February 2013 snowfall 192cm observed on 16 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Naeba. Cloud still around but more clearings up there as time goes on and it could end up being a very fine day. A few days of calmer and sunnier conditions now until Friday, when the next snow is due. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Rain we got yesterday and this morning early on it's cloudy and some light rain still falling, though up at Kagura it is apparently holding off at the moment. Early on as well it's fairly calm but later stronger winds are forecast. For now Kagura seems intent on being open as normal but there may be some lift operations affected at Naeba come opening time. Today is of course the last day of the ski season at Naeba. Looks like we might have to wait a bit longer for clearer weather conditions as rain/sleet is lined up through until tomorrow. Perhaps better from Tuesday. Kagura information will be covered on the Yuzawa Now section of the site. Naeba Now will be back as next winter season approaches. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . A couple of cm since yesterday here in Naeba, and both Naeba and Kagura telling us that there has been up to 5cm on the slopes. Something of a surprise this morning is the blue sky I see up there and the sun out. Wasn't really expecting that. But yes there's a fair bit of blue over Naeba, more cloud hanging over Kagura but it could really clear up.... though the forecast doesn't say that. Snow to move back in? The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Just a bit of snow to report this morning and up to 5cm on the slopes. The less said about yesterday the better as we did get a bit wet, with wet snow falling in higher areas. It is snowing now though and so hopefully we can get a bit more before it clears up - which is probably going to be this afternoon. But the snow is due back later on tomorrow as well and from then on the forecast does seem to be saying some decent snowfalls on and off through into the coming weekend. The more the better I say. But on that note I will move swiftly on to tell you that it turned into snow overnight and this morning. A few cm at Naeba and up to 5cm at Kagura. Feels much colder too. Yey. Strong winds persist though. Kagura is limited to just the Mitsumata Ropeway to Kagura No1 pair lift, and Tashiro Ropeway to Tashiro No2 pair lift early on. If the wind eases off, more might open up. Nighta is now all done and dusted, so we are just left with seven days of day time skiing. Here in Naeba of course, those Kagura types keep it going up there until late May! It's quite a cold morning and after getting a bit wet yesterday it is now lovely and clear. Blue skies up above. No new snow to report (there was a chance up top but didn't happen).
