That sure is a lot and I can't remember thinking yesterday that we were on for such a dump! But hey, it's the better kind of news so I'll take it. Not due to last the day today and perhaps the sun and clearer skies tomorrow along with milder conditions. We might get to escape the rain that many regions are going to get on Sunday with it straight to snow hopefully. Colder climes again in the first part of next week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Last day of February. Someone pointed out to me that there's just 1 month more left with all of Shiga Kogen areas open. Scary thought. Some areas are open until early May of course, but still...! Anyway. A good end to February with 10-20cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning around Shiga Kogen, just under 15cm outside my place. Nice and cold start to the day as well. Feels like it's clearing now, but more decent snow due tomorrow? Yes please. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some fresh snow overnight, at least a few cm or so and there was about 5cm on the top of my car to brush off. Not the best of conditions yesterday with some heavy and wet conditions so the fresh layer should help this morning. It has eased off now and there's even some blue sky to see as well up there and a bit of sunshine. Forecast is for snow though so.. bring it on please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Here's something novel to report. Blackout! It seems that large areas of northern Nagano have suffered a power cut this morning, including us here in Shiga Kogen. Sometime around 6am it started as far as I can tell, coming back sometime after 9am. Things seem to be getting back up as normal now but there'll likely be some late lifts this morning. I think they have to warm them up or something ;) Some sun out now as well and blue skies appearing from behind all the cloud. A moderate wind still blowing some of the snow around. Not that much snow lined up on the weekly forecast now, perhaps some snow showers here and there but more of a chance of seeing some sun I think. Fingers crossed it'll stay cold. Luckily the wind has calmed down and things are in the process of changing - it's clearing up. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A good morning to you from Shiga Kogen. So yesterday we saw a number of resort areas open up courses and get lifts moving, and below I have added all of the information available for you for each of the areas open, which are: Ichinose Family, Kumanoyu, Takamagahara Mammoth, Yakebitaiyama and Yokoteyama. This morning lots of cloud about and even a bit of sun as well - the dusting of snow overnight is probably the last that will fall for a number of days now. The general trend this week is for clearer conditions and as we head into the early week expecting sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. Hopefully it will remain cold enough for the snow that is here to keep. The end of the coming week is looking good for more snow. I'll keep you updated on that as we get closer... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I was just looking at some of the other reports - looks like the weather was pretty bad in many places yesterday. And it was pretty bad here too. But there is good news! Yes, the good news is that the rain turned into snow overnight and there has actually been some snow fall up here in Shiga Kogen. 6cm outside my place and my friend over near Yakebitaiyama is saying nearly 10cm. Nice. Not enough to kick things into action of course but a good end to a bad day! Keep an eye on the forecast for mid week as it's looking promising in terms of snow and a return to proper winter temperatures. Currently (very) limited areas of the Kumanoyu, Yakebitaiyama, Takamagahara Mammoth and Ichinose Family resort areas of Shiga Kogen are open. It is a cold morning and some snow is falling this morning - not a huge amount and it is likely to not last long with clearing conditions expected today. Clearer skies are expected but a more significant snowfall is lined up on the forecast for later Thursday into Friday. Takamagahara are trying to prepare to open their Number 2 lift as well, playing around with the available snow. There's not a whole lot to play with though just now. What we need of course is a decent snowfall. Fingers crossed the end of the week might provide that. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. And yes it is a good one today with some of nice light snow to report to you. Depending on where you are, around 10-20cm of fresh. Outside my place it was 14cm so that's the number on record. All of the resort areas of Shiga Kogen - apart from the very small Kidoike - are now at least part open, though as you can see from the official snow depth numbers below, it's not 'deep' yet. We still need lots more snow. It has been a really bitty start to the season here (and I see in most other areas as well) and it means that the latest updated information is sometimes difficult to get... some courses opening up during the day without advanced notice. (If you are here the best thing to do is just ask the ticket counters or lift guys for the latest - hopefully they will know!) Snow forecast for the rest of this morning and hopefully into this afternoon but it's due to ease sometime during the day today. After some sunshine maybe tomorrow morning, New Years Eve should bring with it some more snow and fingers crossed it will be snowing as we enter 2016. That would be a good start. The first few days of 2016 are forecast to be slightly milder, but we will of course hope that as is so often the case it will remain cold up here in Shiga Kogen and keep the snow conditions good. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Light snow falling early this morning in Shiga Kogen and another 5cm or so to report. Nice and cold so the conditions are keeping. The local forecast tells us to expect the snowfall to ease as the day goes on and maybe even later get to see some sunshine. Tomorrow should start off with clearer skies too but snow is expected on New Years Eve night and through into 1st January. Clearer weather and slightly less cold temperatures are expected for the first days of the new year, so not a whole lot of snow is expected into early next week. Official Shiga Kogen information has only two small resort areas that are 'fully open' (Ichinose Diamond and Tannenomori Okojo), with all others remaining 'part open' - though a few are fairly close to being fully open. Still, we're not quite there yet as we wait for more snowfall to let that happen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Real storm conditions this morning here in Shiga Kogen. 28cm outside my base here in the place where I always take my measurements. It's windy out there and the wind is blowing the snow around and so there's more in some places and less in others. Lifts are definitely going to be affected this morning - in fact it looks like at the moment pretty much all lifts are on hold - but with these conditions I can't imagine actually wanting to be out there in them myself! I think I will wait until the storm passes to enjoy the new snow. The official snow depths have for the most part hardly budged so just ignore them for the moment and think of that lovely new fresh snow that has fallen - and is continuing to fall. The snow and wind is expected to continue over the next few days though perhaps some easing off from time to time allowing some places to part open. By the end of the week though if this all continues as per forecast, we're going to be enjoying some great conditions and be fully open - at last! Here's to lots of snowfall.
