Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 706cm Posted on Tuesday 23rd February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Waking up this morning and looking out of the window my thoughts were, it is still snowing. Furano has had such a good run of snow this season and there has been only the odd day since January when we haven't had snow. Today's fresh snow amounts to another 8cm, and it is very light and dry. There is a light breeze blowing around the village which is likely to be a tad stronger at elevation. The snow fall is coming down moderately and snow is forecast for the rest of the day. Actually it is forecast to snow continuously for the rest of the week. Temperatures should be a lot colder though from tomorrow onwards. Conditions are cloudy with some of the cloud rolling down the tops. This combined with the moderate snow coming down means visibility is not perfect, but still pretty good with just a bit of low light in places. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 711cm Posted on Thursday 25th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Those wintery temperatures are still with us and this morning and -17c was recorded at the top of the resort. There is not really anything to report in the way of fresh snow as only 1cm was recorded in the village. Perhaps there will be a bit more on the mountain, but nothing to get excited about today. There is plenty of blue showing through the partially cloudy skies. Like yesterday the blue will likely disappear during the morning leaving overcast skies. Visibility is excellent this morning. For the rest of the week it is expected similarly chilly temperatures will persist with continuous light snow. The heaviest falls of snow are predicted for tonight and Friday night. Fingers crossed for a decent top up. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The winds have arrived as forecast and they are very strong at the moment. There is plenty of horizontal snow shooting past my window right now making it hard to see much in the distance. There has been 7cm of new snow overnight, but on the slopes it will be hit and miss, as there will be areas of powder and others where the wind has stripped the snow away. Variable will be the word of they day. The ski area has already announced Kitanomine Gondola will not operate. It is possible other lift operations will be affected by the wind, so best to check with the resort for the latest information. The wind will decrease but still be strong by afternoon, and then increase again by tomorrow morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 9cm Snowfall at base this season 780cm Posted on Friday 4th March 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Right now it is the perfect morning. There is not even a single cloud over the resort, rather deep blue sky and sunshine. It is cold though, with the resort base hitting -17c this morning, so best to put on an extra layer to keep that cold at bay. There is good news in relation to the snow as well with 9cm of fresh recorded since yesterday morning. The snow is in great condition with groomed powder conditions on all the main runs. This afternoon there could be a light dusting of snow but the clear conditions should stay with us for the day. Tomorrow is forecast to be another great day with clear skies. Sunday is the day that is going to be the wild card with positive temperatures and moderate rain predicted. I certainly have my fingers crossed that the weather pattern changes into something more positive, such as moderate snow instead of the moderate rain.
