  • Furano Now: Saturday 2nd March 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 548cm Weather overview Cloudy some sun Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Good Posted at 10:35am on Saturday 2nd March 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . They say that March comes in like a lion, and last night would be no exception. Howling winds and heavy snows pummeled Furano from yesterday afternoon until the winter storm died down early this morning. 15cm+ of the finest fresh fell over a few hours, but winds upwards of 7m/s with stronger gusts were whipping the newly fallen snow into deep snow banks and cornices. Please be careful out on the mountain today, as some places that may look to be completely normal are actually deep pockets of wind-driven snow. Things have quieted down for now, and the sun has even come out a little bit. The forecast for today called for the huge storm that moved its way across the Furano Valley last night to linger on through the day today, but it looks like the worst is over. Expect some lingering snow showers for the remainder of the day, but we should see nothing like the debilitating heavy wind/snow combination we saw last night. Temperatures are in the low minus single digits, and we just may approach the freezing mark today. The resort has raised the official snow depth to 190cm, and today looks like a great day to get out there. Happy skiing, and enjoy all that fresh snow! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 586cm Weather overview Moderate snow Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted at 9:15am on Saturday 9th March 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . All traces of yesterday's Spring-like weather have been erased by a fresh blanket of newly fallen snow. At present, over 10cm+ of fresh powder has piled up out there, and the snow is still coming down. Temperatures are brisk at -8, a far cry from yesterday's high of 5 above freezing, the warmest weather we've seen all year. The winds have picked up to around 5m/s out of the North/Northwest. The snow should continue throughout the morning, covering up all those icy spots that came with the rain yesterday. Underneath all that new snow, there are more than a few slick patches, so please be careful when taking your turns. Things should stay cloudy with scattered snow showers. Hopefully the powder will keep piling up out there.
