Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 307cm Weather overview Cloud Wind Calm Temperature - Visibility Good Posted at 12:26am on Saturday 12th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . A few centimeters of fresh snow fell overnight, but on the whole it's been a quiet Saturday morning. The cloud cover is thick and heavy, and although they look like it could snow at any second, for the moment they are quiet. The forecast for the day is mostly cloudy skies throughout the evening and into tomorrow, where we will see another chance for snow. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more snow showers made their way through the area throughout the day, but it doesn't look like we will be seeing any significant, new accumulations. It's currently a mild -7, and with the occasional break in the clouds, today is shaping up to be a fine one for skiing. It has started to snow in Furano but the accumulation has not been anything significant and at best there is only a very light dusting visible at base level. The weather is currently cloudy with very light snow falling. Visibility is good on the lower mountain but at upper levels there will be some areas of flat light. Temperatures have hit a chilly -20c in the village and are even colder higher up on the mountain, but we can be thankful that there is no wind to cool things down even more. The forecast is still showing snow through today and tomorrow. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It has been a perfect morning in Furano with clear skies, no wind and the sun shining. The pistes started off firm but started to soften up very nicely in the mid morning sun. There was no new snow at base level but on the upper mountain there was significant enough snowfall to almost cover up tracks in some of the ungroomed areas. The mountain is fairly quiet today except for school groups on the lower slopes. • Furano Now: Saturday 26th January 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 13cm Snowfall at base this season 354cm Weather overview Cloudy, light snow at times Wind Moderate+ Temperature - Visibility OK Posted at 5:40pm on Saturday 26th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . A rather large weather system moving through the area yesterday and through the night left us with about 10-15cm of fresh snow. A southerly storm, it brought with it warmer temperatures and plenty of big, fat snowflakes, meaning the freshies to be had today were a bit heavier than usual. By noon, most of the new snow on the well-traveled runs had been eaten through, but there was plenty of powder to be found along the sides and on the less-frequented courses. The weather was great for most of the day, with partly cloudy skies, mild temperatures, and little wind. The snow started to fall again towards the end of day-skiing, so for those of you out there this evening, there should be a little something to look forward to in the way of fresh powder. We had a high of -5 day, unseasonably mild and a welcome break from the all the cold we've been seeing this year. Sunday should see a return to colder temperatures and cloudy skies, with a small chance for snow showers throughout the day, but nothing too major in the way of snow accumulations is to be expected. It's cooled down now to around -10, and temperatures should bottom out in the minus mid-teens, so be sure to bundle up out there! The good news is the winds should be light to non-existent, so tonight might be a good evening to get a few runs in after an early dinner. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The good news is that there was some fresh snow overnight which amounted to around 5cm at base level. Strong winds whipped up in the early hours of the morning so there will be much deeper stashes on the mountain itself. The winds are still persisting and because of this Kitanomine Gondola is on hold for now. Temperatures are quite warm but those winds are adding a substantial wind chill factor so don't underdress if you plan to head out. The pistes are firm packed powder which is skiing quite fast at the moment. With not a great deal of snow over the last week it would be good to get a top up and the forecast is now for light snow this evening and then more starting Friday afternoon. • Furano Now: Wednesday 30th January 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 361cm Weather overview Cloud Wind Light wind Temperature - Visibility OK Posted at 9:03am on Wednesday 30th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Today is a little bit of a change from the clear days that we have been having recently. Last night brought some snow but not quite as much as we were hoping for and accumulation in the village is only 2cm. However, this will provide a nice top up to the base and on the mountain itself accumulation will be significantly more than 2cm. The day is overcast with clouds rolling down over the tops. There is some flat light particularly on the upper mountain but overall visibility is reasonable and should be an issue. Currently there are light winds around the base area and these will pick up in exposed areas on the mountain. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 359cm Weather overview Cloudy, light snow Wind Moderate+ Temperature - Visibility Fair Posted at 10:25am on Sunday 27th January 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The snows picked back up last night and have continued into the morning. Winds were a bit blustery over the late night hours, but things have calmed back down to a reasonable pitch now. We received around 5cm of new snow, but all that wind blowing around means that the sides of the runs are going to be the prime places for powder this morning. The forecast doesn't call for any significant storm totals, but there might be a surprise snow shower or two that leave us with a few more centimeters before the day is out. Temperature-wise, daytime highs are looking to peak in the mid-minus single digits (around -5), and it should be clear and cold tonight once all this cloud-cover moves out of the way. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Clouds have hung around the tops for most of the day so far leading to flat light conditions at times depending on how much sunlight is able to penetrate. Temperatures are certainly warmer than they have been recently and around the village the higher temperatures and sunshine have led to melting taking place on roofs and the roads, but the cloud hovering over the mountain itself has done a good job of protecting the slopes. The pistes are well groomed and most of the side powder has now been skied out. Tomorrow is also looking to be quite warm but the good news is there is some snow heading this way over the weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 493cm Weather overview Cloud, light snow Wind Windy Temperature -9C base / -15C top Visibility Generally poor Posted at 9:26am on Wednesday 26th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Another 30cm of fresh snow to report this morning from Niseko and another extremely cold morning. -10C out there... actually slightly colder than it was earlier on! The snow started falling in style in the evening yesterday and it is still coming down now though has been easing off. Wind, cold and poor visibility do not make this the friendliest of days conditions-wise, but the snow should be very fine. Just take care out there. The wind blowing about on the mountain is affecting resort operations on the mountain this morning with all of the resorts reporting that their top lifts are not operating early on. Similar weather conditions forecast for tomorrow as well before the snow perhaps easing up Friday and then a relatively mild weekend. Just one point I'd like to explain that someone asked us about. The 'official snow depth' numbers shown in the table above and information below are the snow depth numbers coming from the resort. It doesn't necessarily mean that when we have 30cm of snow fall here overnight that those official numbers will jump by the same 30cm. More often than not they won't for a number of reasons (snow gets compacted, melts, etc.) The 'new snowfall' that I am reporting is the new snowfall observed in the village to give you an idea of how much snow has actually fallen.
