- Furano Now: Tuesday 10th January 2017
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 306cm Posted on Tuesday 10th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It feels good to be able to report a decent amount of snow this morning, although not a mega number, 7 cm at village level is significant and I would expect up to 15cm on the mountain. More important than today's 7cm though is the fact that there will be continuous snow for the next 6 days at least. Don't expect too much in the way of sun over the next 6 days as it is likely to be overcast each day. The weather is being nice today as well, being mostly cloudy, but some pretty big gaps in the clouds are letting good lighting through so there are no issues with visibility as I write this report now. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. More snow this morning - just over 10cm measured by myself - and though there's still a lot of snow on the forecast over the coming week, today is expected to clear up a bit before the snow returns later on before the end of the day. It should be a very fine day to be out on the slopes. Forecast is still looking very good with the heaviest snow expected as we enter (and over) the weekend). Come on Mother Nature, bring it to us... The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Waiting for snow, then a bit of snow; these cycles are starting to get to me. We got some snow overnight - 16 cm at the base of Akakan - but we're still waiting for those endless days of non-stop snowing that is more, well, Myoko-y. This week looks like it could all turn around, though, so while today's light snow was welcome, it looks like a lot of fun ahead. Heavy snow, high winds... oh yeah (just be careful if it does start building up really fast with lots of wind, if you're in the backcountry). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 263cm Posted on Tuesday 10th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. So today's snow fall is a little difficult to pin down as to exactly how much has fallen in the last 24 hours. I have measured depths in various places around the base area and the most constant in areas sheltered from the wind is 20 cm. However in areas that have been strongly windswept the accumulation is much less. So therefore whilst 20cm has fallen it is not consistent across the whole mountain. Today's conditions will once again be fairly nice groomers with pockets of powder to be hunted down. Going on the weather is still predicting no end to the snow with Heavy Snowfall predicted as of Friday. Chilly! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 299cm Posted on Monday 9th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is the start of a new week and the week ahead looks like it will deliver the goods in terms of snow. The snow hasn't started yet, but from today through until Saturday, continuous snow is forecast and we should see substantial accumulations on the mountain each day. There will be some strong winds mid week on Wednesday and Thursday. Today conditions are overcast, but visibility is very good. Winds around the village are moderate and higher up the resort they will be strong in exposed places. Unfortunately the wind has meant that the operation of Kitanomine Gondola has been put on hold until the winds recede. While you wont find any new snow on the ground this morning there is plenty on the way. Unfortunately we were unable to upload a report yesterday, so the 3cm of snow that fell yesterday is in this report today. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. And I have more fresh snow to report, just over 15cm at my measuring point though I see official sources are saying up to 25cm this morning. It's great to see more fresh on the ground though it doesn't look like it is the lightest and fluffiest, due to the fact that it is relatively mild (though remaining under zero). Anyway, I must get outside and strap my skis on to go check... By the looks of the forecast we are in for a lot more in the coming week and with colder temperatures too quality should be up there. Maybe some more today but in particular from later on tomorrow - it might get pretty hairy out there at times into the weekend. Bring it all on, I say, as much as possible. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao and happy to report fresh snowfall on the ground this morning. Over 10cm of it here and surely more than that on the slopes should make for a nice fresh ride this morning. Visibility looks generally limited though due to foggy conditions, so extra care with the speed. It doesn't seem as cold this morning and currently hovering around 0C here at base. It looks like lots of Japan is on for a big week in terms of snowfall and Zao should be on the receiving end of it as well with potential for heavy snow and storm like conditions from later on in the day tomorrow and especially around Thursday and Friday by the looks of things. It will be very welcome indeed! Anyway, today there is a special message from SnowJapan to introduce - and here it is! But it should be a fun morning. And today is of course the last day of the long weekend here in Japan.
