Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 11cm
Snowfall at base this season 162cm

Posted on Monday 9th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Morning from Zao and happy to report fresh snowfall on the ground this morning. Over 10cm of it here and surely more than that on the slopes should make for a nice fresh ride this morning. Visibility looks generally limited though due to foggy conditions, so extra care with the speed. It doesn't seem as cold this morning and currently hovering around 0C here at base.

It looks like lots of Japan is on for a big week in terms of snowfall and Zao should be on the receiving end of it as well with potential for heavy snow and storm like conditions from later on in the day tomorrow and especially around Thursday and Friday by the looks of things.

It will be very welcome indeed!

Anyway, today there is a special message from SnowJapan to introduce - and here it is!
