Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 299cm

Posted on Monday 9th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

It is the start of a new week and the week ahead looks like it will deliver the goods in terms of snow. The snow hasn't started yet, but from today through until Saturday, continuous snow is forecast and we should see substantial accumulations on the mountain each day. There will be some strong winds mid week on Wednesday and Thursday.

Today conditions are overcast, but visibility is very good. Winds around the village are moderate and higher up the resort they will be strong in exposed places. Unfortunately the wind has meant that the operation of Kitanomine Gondola has been put on hold until the winds recede. While you wont find any new snow on the ground this morning there is plenty on the way.

Unfortunately we were unable to upload a report yesterday, so the 3cm of snow that fell yesterday is in this report today.
