  • Yuzawa Now: Friday 4th April 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Friday 4th April 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, the grey and rather miserable weather down in town continues this morning. Kagura is this morning reporting 3cm of snow up top and it looks like there might have been a slight dusting of snow on the top of the quad lift building at GALA (photo below). Happily, the rain in town is due to ease off by lunchtime and we should be getting some relief from tomorrow. The forecast clearer skies and sunshine (for tomorrow) will be very welcome, and local forecasts predict that to be the dominant weather until at least mid-week. It will be getting warmer too, though not drastically so. It has been strangely cold for early April so far. (That would be great if we were getting snowed on, not so great when it is raining). Sunday is the last day of the ski season for the following ski areas: Ishiuchi Maruyama (Minamiuonuma) Joetsu Kokusai (Minamiuonuma) Naeba (Yuzawa) Nakazato Snow Wood (Yuzawa) NASPA Ski Garden (Yuzawa) Yuzawa Kogen (Yuzawa) From Monday, just three ski areas will be open: GALA Yuzawa Kagura Kandatsu Snow Resort ---------------------------- Ski area information for Friday 4th April 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It is Monday morning and we start the week with cloudy/overcast skies. There seems to be a chance that we might get some sun later on but it's not going to warm up much over around 10C in town. It will probably be warmer and sunnier tomorrow. Three ski areas remain open in the region. Kandatsu Snow Resort is hoping to be open for another week and then GALA Yuzawa and Kagura plan to continue into May. Check the list below for details of what remains open. A few more details have been added from today. The information will continue to be checked with official information sources and updated as necessary every morning. Please note that a few ski areas might continue with sightseeing or 'playing in the snow' activities over the coming weeks. For example, Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway is open for sightseeing and also offering an area called 'Snow Experience in Spring' (sledding etc). • Yuzawa Now: Monday 14th April 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Monday 14th April 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. I'm not sure how windy it was yesterday, but the wind was certainly noisy at times. This morning is starting off wet and rainy but it shouldn't be lasting too long and we are due some clearer skies and sun later on in the day. From today just two ski areas in Yuzawa remain open - GALA Yuzawa and Kagura. At GALA, there are four lifts operating (like on weekdays last week), but the Falcon downhill course is now closed. (They did well keeping that open for as long as they did). At Kagura, 12 lifts are operating. The top Number 5 pair is now closed, but the Number 1 pair is open. There's a typo on the official Kagura site at the time of putting this report together that says the temperature is 30C. It will get that hot soon enough in the coming months, but thankfully it is not that hot today! I'm guessing it meant to say 3C. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Monday 14th April 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 3rd May 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Saturday 3rd May 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Yesterday the wind seemed to be around until around the middle of the day and then we got rain. Not nice, and not great for the snow. This morning the runs at GALA Yuzawa are looking in much better shape than they were yesterday morning. They have clearly been busy moving some snow around and trying to patch things up. From the webcam images, it looks like they have done a pretty good! The ski area has stated the intention to remain open through Tuesday as originally planned. Gambatte! Not good news from Kagura, though. Mitsumata Ropeway is going to be out of action for the whole day today, due to some kind of mechanical trouble. Oh dear. That means Kagura will only be open via Tashiro Ropeway - and only 4 Tashiro ski lifts will be open. The Tashiro car park is going to fill up very quickly. (I wonder if the ski area will provide a shuttle bus or something from Mitsumata car park? No such news is available at time of this report). That situation is very unfortunate timing with today being the first of four holidays and lots of people expected to be around. 8:00am update: The ski area has said that the Tashiro car park is already full. (But no official word on any kind of special shuttle bus service). It is a cloudy start to the day but we might get some sun. Currently there is a chance of some light rain at times tomorrow, but back to sun on Monday. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Saturday 3rd May 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. GALA Yuzawa has announced that the southerly winds forecast for tomorrow mean that the ski area will not be able to open. Effectively that means today was the last day of the ski season at GALA Yuzawa. Otsukaresama deshita. Kagura ski area has also announced that the Tashiro Area will be closed tomorrow. A decision will be made tomorrow morning regarding the Mitsumata Ropeway and Kagura section of the ski area. Original morning report: Good morning. It almost felt cold at times yesterday! Foggy conditions too, making it not feel like Golden Week at all! Happily, today should be a big improvement and we should get to enjoy some clear skies, sunshine and warmth (though it might not get to 20C in town). Tomorrow is the last day of the season for GALA Yuzawa and the Tashiro Area of Kagura. Currently the forecast for tomorrow seems to be cloudy with a chance of rain. There also seems to be a fair chance of some blowy southerly winds again. Best to get some last turns in at GALA today as strong southerly winds might cause problems tomorrow. If there is any related news by late evening, we'll update this report. Tomorrow will also be the last Yuzawa Now daily report of the season. Beyond tomorrow, we'll keep you informed of what is happening at Kagura a few times a week until it closes. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Monday 5th May 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. Due to forecasts winds, GALA Yuzawa is not open today. It is an unfortunate way to end the season, but can't be helped. Today was also the planned closing last day of the season for the Tashiro Area of Kagura, but that is also closed today for the same reason. So that means just the Mitsumata Ropeway remains open. As things stand, it is scheduled to remain open until Sunday 18th May. While the daily updates finish up today, this report will continue to be updated at least twice a week until Kagura closes. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 6th May 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report All information subject to change --------------- Kagura Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): 300cm (top) 220cm (base) Lifts operating (scheduled): Mitsumata Ropeway Mitsumata Number 1 quad Mitsumata Number 2 romance pair lift Kagura gondola Kagura Number 1 quad Kagura Number 1 romance pair lift Mitsumata Ropeway is open from 8:00am until 4:30pm (last one going up at 3:00pm) 10 courses remain open You can still ski/board back to the top Mitsumata Ropeway station The Tashiro Ropeway base is now closed for the season Planned closing date: Sunday 18th May 2025 ---------------------------- The following ski areas have now closed (for skiing/snowboarding) for the 2024-2025 season: Chateau Shiozawa GALA Yuzawa Hakkai Sanroku Ishiuchi Maruyama Joetsu Kokusai Ipponsugi Snow Park Iwappara Kagura (Tashiro Area is closed; Mitsumata Ropeway is still open) Kandatsu Snow Resort Maiko Snow Resort Muikamachi Hakkaisan Naeba Nakazato Snow Wood NASPA Ski Garden Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Yuzawa Park Yuzawa Now 2024-2025 season Data as of Tuesday 6th May 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 1243cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 74 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 62cm (20th February) November 2024 snowfall 0cm December 2024 snowfall 352cm reported on 20 days January 2025 snowfall 286cm reported on 18 days February 2025 snowfall 539cm reported on 23 days March 2025 snowfall 66cm reported on 13 days April 2025 snowfall 0cm May 2025 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Wednesday 7th May 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Rain this morning and again not very warm as the unseasonable kind of changeable weather continues. There might be some sun later on, though. The ski area has not said it explicitly, so exact status is unclear this morning, but it seems the Mitsumata Area of Kagura is now not available as a ski run (they are listed as closed on the official site, meaning you would need to take the lift down). Again, unconfirmed as we approach 8:00am this morning. The Kagura quad seems to be on hold due to wind. Sometimes it really feels like some ski areas view providing clear information as being a bit of a chore. (Readers of some of the other Now reports on SnowJapan will know that is not just a Kagura/Yuzawa thing. Sigh!) Hopefully tomorrow will be sunny. I'm more than ready for some nice consistent spring weather now. But not heat, please. ---------------------------- Ski area information for Wednesday 7th May 2025 The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report All information subject to change --------------- Kagura Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): 300cm (top) 220cm (base) Lifts operating (scheduled): Mitsumata Ropeway Mitsumata Number 1 quad Mitsumata Number 2 romance pair lift Kagura gondola Kagura Number 1 quad (** not operating this morning due to wind) Kagura Number 1 romance pair lift Mitsumata Ropeway is open from 8:00am until 4:30pm (last one going up at 3:00pm) 6 courses appear to remain open It is unclear at time of report if you can still ski back down to Mitsumata Ropeway top station (apparently not) The Tashiro Ropeway base is now closed for the season Planned closing date: Sunday 18th May 2025 ---------------------------- The following ski areas have now closed (for skiing/snowboarding) for the 2024-2025 season: Chateau Shiozawa GALA Yuzawa Hakkai Sanroku Ishiuchi Maruyama Joetsu Kokusai Ipponsugi Snow Park Iwappara Kagura (Tashiro Area is closed; Mitsumata Ropeway is still open) Kandatsu Snow Resort Maiko Snow Resort Muikamachi Hakkaisan Naeba Nakazato Snow Wood NASPA Ski Garden Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Yuzawa Park Yuzawa Now 2024-2025 season Data as of Wednesday 7th May 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 1243cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 74 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 62cm (20th February) November 2024 snowfall 0cm December 2024 snowfall 352cm reported on 20 days January 2025 snowfall 286cm reported on 18 days February 2025 snowfall 539cm reported on 23 days March 2025 snowfall 66cm reported on 13 days April 2025 snowfall 0cm May 2025 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Some more news to report and so another report! With snow melting away, the lower Mitsumata Area of Kagura is now only being used as 'connecting' course to and from Kagura, and the Taikai course is now closed. You can still ski/board back down to the top station of Mitsumata Ropeway, so no walking involved at this point. Cloudy weather forecast for the day today and it looks like there's limited visibility up at Kagura. A moderate wind is still around. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm Posted on Wednesday 14th May 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. We enjoyed sunshine and warmth yesterday. It was feeling borderline hot in the afternoon. Today starts with bright but overcast skies and we expect some sun later. Forecasts currently show the chance of some light rain at times over the weekend. Some seem to be wondering if Kagura might be tempted to extend the season beyond Sunday. There might well be enough snow up there, but it seems extremely unlikely. (A 'final day' event - free pork soup and a raffle! - is planned at the Mitsumata Ropeway base station from 2pm on Sunday). Unless there is any major changes to operations or news from Kagura, we'll post again on Friday and then a last report to end the season on Sunday. --------------- Kagura Official snow depth (reported by the ski area): 220cm (top) 210cm (base) Lifts operating (scheduled): Mitsumata Ropeway Mitsumata Number 1 quad Mitsumata Number 2 romance pair lift Kagura gondola Kagura Number 1 quad Number 1 romance pair (weekend only) Courses open (scheduled): Kagura main course Kagura main course bypass Technical course Giant course Kagura connecting course Panorama course Gondola course Family course (Mitsumata Area) Gondola Line course (Mitsumata Area) Mitsumata Ropeway is open from 8:00am until 4:30pm (last one going up at 3:00pm) The Tashiro Ropeway / Tashiro Area is now closed for the season Planned closing date: Sunday 18th May 2025 Yuzawa Now 2024-2025 season Data as of Wednesday 14th May 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 1243cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 74 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 62cm (20th February) November 2024 snowfall 0cm December 2024 snowfall 352cm reported on 20 days January 2025 snowfall 286cm reported on 18 days February 2025 snowfall 539cm reported on 23 days March 2025 snowfall 66cm reported on 13 days April 2025 snowfall 0cm May 2025 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
