Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this seas 375cm

Posted on Thursday 2nd January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

The clouds cleared again yesterday, leaving us with another very fine afternoon in the region with a lot of blue sky and sunshine, and mild too.

It is snowing this morning. Once again it's not particularly cold and the snow is on the wet side for the moment, but that is of course better than rain. (We might get lucky and avoid wet today; maybe not. Forecasts differ on that score). It should be snowing at higher elevations, though, so you know where to go to definitely avoid it!

Visibility is limited this morning.

Weather conditions aside, we can probably expect popular ski areas to be busier today than they were yesterday. The busy period traditionally continues until at least Saturday, with New Year visitors start making their way back over the weekend in time for the start of the work year on Monday.

The snowfall number this morning is from post-report yesterday morning plus the small amount that is now sticking this morning.
