Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 23cm
Snowfall at base this seas 407cm

Posted on Wednesday 8th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Very happy to report a fresh layer of snow this morning. Our measurement as of 8am is 23cm... and counting. Moderate snowfall right now. Very good.

Kagura is this morning reporting 'maybe' 30-40cm of fresh snowfall. Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 25cm.

Yesterday ended up being a largely fine day (in terms of sun/cloud and brightness), and it was another mild one getting up to around 6C. And we did get some more rain before the snow started overnight.

This morning is clearly colder. It is currently just -0.5C in town.

We are expecting snow through the day today. There might be a chance of a clearer start to tomorrow, but some potentially heavy snow is shown on forecasts for Thursday/Friday.

Big picture: the last few days of warmth and some rain inevitably hurt snow conditions, but we seem to be back on track this morning. There's a nice new fresh layer out there this morning, with more on the way soon.

Hurray!
