- Naeba Now: Friday 10th February 2017
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 832cm Posted on Friday 10th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. Well, today is definitely going to be a cold one! Relatively strong winds and heavy snow combined have created partial blizzard conditions on the mountain. This, unfortunately, means that some of the mountain will not open today with The Dragondola and Prince Gondola No. 2 both currently on wind hold. However, the good news is that there will be awesome powder to ride all day long! There should be powder in most places on the mountain, however, there will be a degree of drifting and wind accumulation going on as well meaning that you may have to hunt a little bit to find the best powder. Looking onwards, this heavy snow is predicted to continue all week until Wednesday when there is expected to be a break in the weather. Delectable! There's another 6cm of snow to report from the yesterday morning and the resort is reporting 5-7cm with none further overnight. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday the clouds continued to clear leaving us with some bright sunshine and mostly blue skies in the afternoon. Lovely. The skies have clouded over again by early this morning and light snow has started to lazily fall. We probably can't expect much during the day today but some forecasts are calling for potentially heavy snowfall overnight tonight, and then regular snowfall through the weekend as well. There is just a light southerly wind this morning and all resorts look like they are opening as normal. It has been cold overnight and it is a cold start to the day - so it should be a good morning! It's going to be interesting to see how the next 24 hours turn out, and of course I will fill you in on that this time tomorrow. Lots of snow and it should be another great upcoming weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 498cm Posted on Wednesday 8th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning and hello - and my apologies for the late report today. 'Unavoidable stuff' is my excuse! Yesterday didn't totally clear up but we did have periods of blue sky and some sunshine - and lots of wind. I have 4cm of fresh overnight snow to report to you this morning. Light snow was falling earlier on this morning, it wasn't snowing when I started this report, but it is snowing again now. Doh! The good news is that the wind is much calmer and this morning all of the lifts that should be moving are open. I would expect with the conditions yesterday and the wind blowing everything around that it will be a mix of nice fresh snow in places but icy in others. Need to keep that in mind. I'm looking at a few different forecasts here and they tell slightly different stories. I suppose the main thing to take from them is that while we may get some more snow later tomorrow and Friday, I wouldn't expect anything major. Snow clouds are forecast to be with us over the weekend too and so hopefully we'll get something out of them. Have a fun day. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6.00am: -5°, 10cm new snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 451cm Posted on Wednesday 8th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It was good to see some new snowfall on the ground this morning even if it was on the light side, totaling 3cm. During the morning there were flakes of snow slowly falling down from the sky, but the precipitation just wasn't enough to add any further accumulation. There is some mist and cloud rolling a third of the way down the mountain on the Kitanomine side and half way down on the Furano Zone side, so there may be a little flat light around the tops. The sun should appear tomorrow and from the forecast it looks like there will be little if any wind. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More snow! Yes, the fresh snow just keeps on falling on us here in Shiga Kogen. Can you tell how happy I am? Not a huge amount since yesterday but another decent blanket reset I would imagine on the slopes. Good news this morning is less wind and so nicer conditions to be out on the slopes. We're not expecting a whole lot of snowfall today, perhaps just light snow. The heavier snowfall is due back tomorrow night though and snowy conditions should continue into the weekend too. There's not much sun on the forecasts for the moment! (Maybe a bit today at times). It's a good time to be here. Try to get here is my advice!
