Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 31cm
Snowfall at base this season 1148cm

Posted on Saturday 11th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

We got snow throughout the day yesterday: it can be hard to find a really good total figure when wind is blowing, and some things get cleared and some don't - and you end up spending six hours doing shoveling around several locations. Ah, the other excitements of living in Snow Country (yes, I read the fine print in the contract before I signed on).

Looks like snow throughout the day; the Niigata prefectural website gives a very good prediction on its site and says 20cm. Other TV weather reports were mentioning the possibility of high winds in the region, although things are peaceful at the moment.

Even had a moment of sun there earlier, although it's turning pretty gray out there now.
