Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 456cm Posted on Tuesday 7th March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . It's nice and colder this morning and there is a dusting of snow on the ground... just about enough for me to add 1cm to the report. I would expect more higher up so there might be a light top-up to enjoy this morning, though surely nothing like a reset. Good looking forecast still with snow expected daily through until the weekend, and it should also be keeping cold. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Just a few cm of snow this morning. There's a lot of cloud around but just as I write this there's actually a bit of sun shining through the clouds in places. And a few patches of blue sky to see. But at the same time, it's snowing. So a real mixed bag of weather conditions this morning. Snow is what is on the forecasts for the next few days, so perhaps it'll set in and I'll have some decent numbers to report over the next few days. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow is back, and a little more than the prefecture's forecast of 10cm. Some wind, as usual when the wind changes and the snowy weather blows in, and a bit of drifting. But it's nice to have things white again (it was getting pretty dirty along the roads. My car is shocking; don't lean against it). Looks like the snow will continue for several days now, maybe not a whole lot every day, but bit by bit works well, too. Easier to keep up with than that three meters in less than two weeks that we got in January. Winter's not completely dead yet... It's still falling fairly thickly even now so get out there! Conditions will be soft and playful potentially for most of the day. Looking on the forecast is predicting precipitation most days. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 463cm Posted on Friday 3rd March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Light snow started falling higher up around lunch time yesterday though not amounting to much. But this morning - fresh snow! Yes, it's always good to be able to report fresh snow and this morning while there's just a bit at lower levels, resorts are reporting up to 20cm of fresh snow in places so 'head high' would be the advice this morning. Can't see much of the mountains at all this morning as they are covered in snow clouds and visibility looks generally rather poor out there. If it means more snow, I'm all for it. But take care if you are venturing out. Having said that, the forecasts don't seem to be indicating that this snowfall will continue for much longer. Some even showing some sunshine for later on in the day. Weather for the weekend? Probably sunshine and mild conditions. Good to see snow lined up on the forecast for early week again though so the snow will be back. Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 is reporting 10-15cm of fresh snowfall. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 730cm Posted on Friday 3rd March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and we have a fresh layer of snow this morning. Around 5cm at base but up to 20cm of fresh snow is being reported on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira courses... so you know where to head this morning! The snowfall probably won't continue for much beyond lunchtime today, so let's get some more cm in! We're expecting sunshine and mild conditions tomorrow. Tomorrow evening there's a big event going on over on the Hikage area. It starts at 7pm with a live act (so I believe) and then there's other things going on like a ski torch lit display and then the fireworks which should begin at around 9pm. No doubt our favourite friendly green vegetable character 'Nasuki' will be making an appearance too. Which in itself will make being there be worth it. :) Fresh snow reported by resort since yesterday morning: - Yamabiko: 20cm - Uenotaira: 20cm - Hikage: 5cm - Nagasaka: 5cm - Karasawa: 5cm Official snow depths: - Yamabiko: 370cm - Uenotaira: 275cm - Hikage: 165cm - Nagasaka: 160cm - Karasawa: 125cm Lifts operations: - All lifts operating except: - Yunomine pair (usually closed on weekdays) - Mizunashi triple (usually closed on weekdays) - Challenge pair (usually closed on weekdays) - Utopia pair (usually closed on weekdays) Courses not open today are: - Grand Prix - Kandahar West Nozawa Now 2016-2017 season Data as of Friday 3rd March 2017 Total snowfall at base 730cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 56 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 52cm (14th January) November 2016 snowfall 2cm reported on 2 days December 2016 snowfall 161cm reported on 14 days January 2017 snowfall 366cm reported on 20 days February 2017 snowfall 196cm reported on 19 days March 2017 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . It was good to get the clearer weather yesterday morning rather than rain, and then... the snow came. Nice. This morning the resort is reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall and for my report I'm measuring 17cm. It's snowing still and a bit windy at times with windy conditions forecast for the day, so it's getting blown about somewhat. Great to have that layer of fresh though. Tomorrow clear skies and sunshine are expected across the region along with once-again milder conditions. But if we get a bit more snow before it eases off today, first lifts Saturday morning should be great. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's back to snow this morning in Shiga Kogen, along with something of a blowy wind making visibility really poor just now here in the Maruike area. Bit of a blizzard-like feel at the moment. Did I mention the 16cm of fresh snow on the ground? With this wind, a bit more and a bit less in places no doubt. The snow is forecast to ease off by early afternoon and tomorrow we are fully expecting clear and sunny skies. Should be a good weekend. Perhaps less busy than February weekends as some folk apparently seem to decide that the ski season has finished for them come March. Silly them! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 1342cm Posted on Friday 3rd March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Just like the forecasts said, it's snowing today. Pretty good fall, too; Niigata's official forecast was for 15cm, and I got a 23cm average after poking around outside. Nice, heavy, spring snow, and it continues to come down at a good rate. Nice to see things clean and white again, after an afternoon of dirt and gray following the bulldozer in my parking lot (and some of the snow walls collapsing onto the road). Sunny tomorrow, it says, meaning that's the day to get out there while the snow is still fresh (well, better today to be out in the fresh as it falls).
