This morning I have measured a further 13cm on the ground and I am happy to report that it is much calmer so lifts should all be operating and gates are expected to be open as well. Yokatta! The mountain should be available and will be very tempting for a whole lot of people at the start of the day for first tracks. Visibility remains limited. So yes, today should be totally excellent. I'm almost tempted to bring out some cheesy marketing type blurb. Haha, just kidding. (And sorry cheese, no bad feelings!). Continued snow clouds over the region are on the forecast. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain Base 6.00am: -7.5°, 10cm new snow in last 24hrs, calm. Moiwa 800m: -10.6°, W7.2m/s, 10cm new snow till dawn, slow cornice and snowdrift development. Mikaeri Weather Station: good visibility. Annupuri 1120m: -13°, snow depth 190cm, groomers in good condition. Hirafu Peak: -12°, W10m/s, snow drift development, calm. Mizuno no Sawa: -11.77°, NW 4.4m/s. Kutchan Weather Station: -6.6°, snow depth 152cm. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NW13m/s. Kamui Cape: WNW7m/s, 1006hPa, wave 1.6m. Snowdrifts are developing slowly and from observation there is no obvious weakness in snowpack. General avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. You must use the gates if you want to go to out bounds areas. Please listen to the patrols advice and be prepared before you go out the gates. Out of bounds areas are unmanaged natural areas. Always make cautious decisions and do not over estimate your skills or equipment. Above 800m snow is reset, including the sides of the runs. Conditions are good. Are you wearing a helmet? Is your beacon on? It is highly recommended to wear them but not compulsory. Don't duck ropes. And those here will be delighted to find 30+cm of fresh snow on the ground and on the mountain. Not sure I was expecting that much, seems to have gotten stronger during the night, but thank you! And! It is still snowing and the forecast now seems to be saying snow during the day. Stronger than normal winds likely this morning but hopefully all will be open as planned. So, I am going to strap my skis on once I post this and go out to try it all. The resort seems to be reporting 60cm on social media and 40cm on their official website. Personally I have measured 48cm; there will be different amounts wherever you measure this morning. It's one of them. But wherever you look, there's a lot of snow. And it is still snowing. Yes! There's more due this week too, perhaps in an on-off kind of pattern. That sounds fine to me, keep on bringing it in. Looks like the 3A lift at Madarao is closed but others should be operating. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Brrrrr, it really does feel very cold outside this morning. The week is looking promising for regular and sometimes heavy snowfall. We might well have to put up with some strong winds though... and the top Zao Ropeway section will likely be affected during the day. Fresh snowfall is always good. Zao never is prone to report big snow depth numbers (even when they surely could - always seems to be on the conservative side), but we could still do with a week or so of prolonged and steady snow delivery. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is snowing light to moderately at the moment and there is 10cm of new snow in the Kitanomine village. Unfortunately the wind is very strong, but should reduce somewhat during the day. It is possible that the wind may affect the operation of Kitanomine Gondola, although it is too early to know that for sure. There is low cloud on the resort and that combined with the wind whipping up the snow means visibility will be limited. Light snow is forecast for tomorrow, and then a heavy snowfall is predicted for Wednesday night. It starts in good style with some good freshly fallen snow on the ground and suitably cold conditions. This morning Yakebitaiyama resort area is reporting about 30cm of fresh snowfall while Kumanoyu (who often report smaller numbers) are saying 10cm. I myself have just measured 16cm but overnight it sounded rather windy so there's that windswept thing going on in places. Forecasts show regular snow for large parts of this week - light at times, heavy at times. All good. Especially the latter! I'm all revved up to go and seek out that 30cm of fresh that Yakebi are reporting! The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Morning to you all. And what an interesting one it is. There has been some noisy winds blowing around and being naughty, it's very cold, there's lots of fresh snow around and that wind has really been mixing it all up. It's all just a bit on the wilder side! I am measuring 26cm of fresh snowfall, but there will be places where there is more than that and indeed places where there is less. These conditions are going to be affecting lift operations for the day, and as of opening times all of the top lifts are on hold as well as the Annupuri and the main Niseko Village gondola and a few some more. The day is starting off with lower to mid-mountain open. Hopefully by later on it might get calmer and tomorrow certainly should be. Once the storm clears though... oh my, it's going to be very good! :) I bet Santa wishes he was still here. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain Base 6.00am: -10°, 35cm new snow in last 12hrs. Moiwa 800m: -11.8°, W11.3m/s, cornice and snowdrift development, blizzard, poor visibility. Mikaeri Weather Station: poor visibility. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 190cm. Hirafu Peak: -16°, blizzard, poor visibility. Mizuno no Sawa: -13.5°, strong NW snow wind, snowdrift development. Kutchan Weather Station: -7.6°, snow depth 146cm. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NW18m/s. Kamui Cape: WNW16m/s, 1001hPa, wave 4.5m. Isobars have moved closer together bringing blizzard conditions and heavy snowfall. Snowdrifts have formed even at the mountain base, visibility is bad. From observation at 800m, there has been over 100cm snowdrift growth and major cornice development in the last 12 hrs. There is possibility of surface avalanche on leeward cornice slopes and knolls around 800m, fracturing at over 60cm depth on the Jan 20th layer of pre low pressure snowfall. Jan 20th layer has formed frost layer by temperature gradient. From all data avalanche risk is high. All peak gates are expected to be closed. Please follow the patrols instructions. Be patient and only ride the sides of the runs today. Even if the wind drops and upper lifts start running the avalanche danger will continue. Do not duck ropes, never enter Yuno Sawa or Haru no taki. Snow is deep and good in the trees. Be careful hitting trees and getting stuck. Maybe tomorrow we can ride the good stuff again. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Zao. Nice blue skies to enjoy yesterday but this morning there is some fresh snow on the ground this morning. Hopefully more higher up. Not much of a wind at all so it should be a good morning to be out and about. It is definitely feeling milder than normal today but temps should be getting lower again by tomorrow and there is consistent snowfall there on the forecast as it stands. Hopefully some heavy snowfall around tomorrow night. The ski jump by the side of the resort is currently hosting the FIS World Cup Ladies event (scheduled until today). The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is a nice morning. Mainly cloudy but the cloud layer looks thin and is letting through plenty of light. I think we will even get the morning sun breaking through soon. Visibility is good and I can see the peak from the base of the mountain. There is a bit of valley fog up top and I expect that to lift soon. There is no wind and it is reasonably warm at -6c. The slopes have received a nice 3cm top up of light powder overnight. Good to see some snow starting for fall from early this morning with a few cm which should be the start of something good. Kind of feels mild though. Still, the forecast is looking very positive for some decent snow over the coming days. Let's hope it happens as we could be doing with some deep fresh out there.
