The latest Niseko Now report can be found here A decent amount of snowfall overnight and I have measured 17cm of it to report to you this morning here at base. Once again, very fine quality powder so conditions on the mountain should be really very good this morning. We have blue skies and sunshine with just a little thin cloud in places. Mt Yotei is looking very beautiful over there and our mountain is looking very tempting. It is very cold this morning so be prepared for that if you are heading out today. It doesn't feel like there's much of a wind and so I expect all lifts should be moving as scheduled this morning. (The Country Road Chair lift is resting again this morning). The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. It's another morning where the number is kind of difficult due to wind blown areas and regional variations. The Yakebitaiyama resort is reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall. Kumanoyu are reporting a very low 10cm which I am really surprised about, it seems really low. My over-enthusiastic friend is talking half a metre again. I need to go with my trusted spot (with nearby backup checks) any my number is 37cm. A specific number isn't the important thing though - it's the fact that we have fresh snowfall and conditions this morning are a bit wild. Tomorrow should be calmer with good visibility. Almost all courses and connections at Shiga Kogen are now open with just a few minor exceptions. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Not many words this morning. You don't need many when you can report.... 50cm of fresh snow on the ground! That's from base to top (where there's even a bit more). The official numbers below include a few cm that were recorded yesterday afternoon - most of it came since then. I just took a few measurements in my usual place and beyond and my number is 51cm. I woke up and found myself saying something like 'Yes, this is Nozawa'. It's still snowing and very cold. Care needs to be taken in these conditions with all that fresh snow. But there sure will be a lot of fun to be had. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and good news with fresh snow on the ground. This morning there's a few different numbers to report: Goryu, 47 and Happo-one all reporting 5cm down at base and 10cm higher up. (To add to that, Hakuba 47 seem to have been mentioning up to 15cm of snow on the upper slopes yesterday afternoon which is admittedly kind of confusing). Hakuba Cortina is looking good with an impressive 40cm being reported across the mountain and I note that also Tsugaike are reporting up to 40cm too... so going on those numbers it would seem that those resorts in a more northerly location got more overnight. I myself can report 8cm on the ground at base since yesterday. I have been over to Goryu and Happo-one early morning as an additional look round before making this report. It is a very cold morning with light snow still falling. As of 9am it looks like the top lifts at Happo-one are on hold due to the weather conditions. As far as I can tell other resorts are open as planned. We can expect some sunshine tomorrow so while today should of course be good, tomorrow should be a real feel-good day out on the mountain. :) The seemingly never-ending tension served up from some people regarding snowfall numbers in Hakuba continues. I report from base. It is clearly stated on the report - with added additional emphasis this season - just to be sure that people who are reading the reports are clear on that point. Just like the other reports on this website. They too are also reporting from the base of their ski resort areas. They aren't all unfairly reporting from the summit. It isn't a competition. But I cannot / will not report more than I observe. The number that I report is the amount of snowfall that has fallen at base. In that new table above, I am also very clearly reporting what the ski resorts themselves are reporting. Look!!! Today Goryu, 47 and Happo-one are all reporting 5cm at base. Are these ski resorts plotting some cunning plan against Hakuba? No, of course not. They are just reporting the situation. They love Hakuba dearly, just as I do. (* Note that I am actually reporting more than they are this morning) Look!!! Cortina are reporting 40cm of snowfall at their base this morning. Do I mention that or do I hide it from readers? Of course I report it. Why on earth would I not be excited about that? Read my report above. I would like to note that out of the literally hundreds of email messages we have received after those recent general comments, almost all of them were very kind and sometimes long messages of support from people who are really happy that they are not just being 'sold to' in the reports on this website. Sadly, the only sarcastic negative comments came from a few people who are apparently in the business of selling Hakuba. That makes me sad, and a few other things too. (Might I add that there are many, many fine people here doing very good things). I am pretty sure that most 'normal' people who are reading the reports will make a note of how much snow has fallen on the mountain as well as at base and read the commentary text that goes with them. Because these things are clearly laid out in the reports. Every. Single. Morning. They will read the reports, take them for what they are and not sit up at night agonising over numbers. (Normal people just don't do that). There, I've had my say. To the 99% - my apologies for the above, I just felt the need to say it. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao. Heavy snowfall. Don't you just love the sound of that? I know I do. That be what we got since yesterday; the result is well over half a metre of fresh snowfall on our mountain. The resort is officially reporting a whopping 65cm. I just took 3 measurements within 10m: 56cm, 59cm, 62cm. I think the middle one there is the one to go with this morning. Official snow depth has just taken that big jump up to 175cm too. The biggest snowfall of the season. And I'm pretty sure it will be the coldest morning of the season too. Excellent. Conditions are a bit wild outside still. I know folk will be very excited at this fresh snow delivery but especially in these conditions real care needs to be taken. Sunshine is expected tomorrow so I would say that if you can take a day off work it would be a good one to choose! I might even say there is a bit more in my usual spot, but I think wind has been a factor there so 80cm is a fair number here. I can't remember posting that big a number before. Official sources currently show most lifts are open and so the wind and snow isn't affecting things too much. Friday should be good especially if we get some decent snow through today and perhaps into tomorrow, as there are clearer skies forecast. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Yesterday we enjoyed some very nice snow conditions (well, I certainly did!) though some upper lifts were affected by wind and put on hold. I have measured just 2cm of fresh snowfall from yesterday to report to you this morning from here at base. Blue skies with just a bit of cloud this morning and sunshine too. It is a very cold morning and wind should not be an issue today, which is of course good news. With those top lifts moving I have no doubt that there will likely be a rush to the top areas! (Alas, I can only look on as people line up for the first lifts. Background music: violins). The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's snowing again and as of 8:30am the resort is reporting 3-5cm across the mountain. The forecast shows clearer skies due later on in the day today so we probably can't expect it to continue for too long. (Actually even now there seems to be some possibly breaks in the cloud down by base). But! The snow clouds are due back with us from tomorrow, and they may well be bringing with them a proper decent amount of snowfall over the region. It is going to be cold over the next few days too. Good proper winter like weather - yes, I like that a lot. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao and it has started snowing again this morning. I wouldn't expect too much out of it with clearer skies due later on. The forecasts still show some exciting snowfall due later tomorrow/Thursday and then around Saturday - we could be on for a really decent amount and some very cold conditions. Don't know about you but I like the sound of that. Back to this morning, and visibility is quite limited for the moment. If the forecast is right and it does clear up by afternoon we should expect visibility to improve. Quite cold. Wrap up well and take care out there. --- I am seeing that the Kamoshika tree run course at Madarao is scheduled to be open; that would make 5 of those open.
