Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 200cm

Posted on Saturday 8th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Zao.

It's almost midday as I write this and the snow is coming down quite heavily down by base.

Clearer weather ahead and after this spell of colder conditions it looks like there is a bit of a warm spell coming around Wednesday/Thursday in the coming week. (Actually it looks a bit too warm for comfort, hopefully that will get forecast down a bit!)

For the moment should be a good weekend.

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Zao Onsen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
