- Yuzawa Now: Saturday 15th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 22cm Snowfall at base this season 610cm Posted on Saturday 15th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. More snow fell yesterday during the day and there's an additional 10+cm overnight, for a total of 22cm for todays report. We have enjoyed getting a lot of snow over the last few days, so conditions should be really good today. Great to see those snow walls by the side of the road refreshed and bumped up once again. The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is open again from today. It looks like the Tashiro Area of Kagura is going to be closed. The reason being given seems to be a kind of vague 'staff feeling unwell', and as far as we can tell there's not re-opening date set. Will try to find out more on that today. Other than that, ski areas should be opening as normal this morning. A few events are happening today, including a '111th year of skiing in Japan' kind of event at NASPA Ski Garden (today and tomorrow). Various events are lined up involving some celebs types and character mascots appearing. There is also a bunch of firework displays due to be set off this evening in what is being called 'Yuzawa Nanairo Fuyu Hanabi' (seven colours winter festival) event. Here's the timetable for the fireworks: 6:00pm: GALA Yuzawa 6:30pm: Yuzawa Kogen 7:00pm: Iwappara 7:30pm: NASPA Ski Garden 8:00pm: Ipponsugi 8:30pm: Yuzawa Park Let's fireworks! The weather is forecast to just be cloudy for this evening. Tomorrow we are probably going to have some clearer and brighter skies with the sun making an appearance in the morning. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 260cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 260cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 220cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 250cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 40cm Official snow depth: Top: 300cm Base: 220cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 230cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 270cm (top) 200cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 180cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 210cm (top) 180cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 255cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 250cm (top) 180cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Official snow depth: 220cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 240cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Saturday 15th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 610cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 28 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 289cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 614cm Posted on Monday 17th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. The skies gradually clouded over during the day yesterday after that clear and beautiful start. This morning Kagura are reporting 10cm of new snowfall and Ishiuchi Maruyama reporting 3cm. Maiko has just reported 10cm, presumably that's up on the top area. There's a few cm in places around town and base areas this morning and it is snowing now, but doesn't feel particularly cold. Just looking now... 0C. We are due snow to continue through the day today and tomorrow, maybe with some heavy snow overnight tonight as it gets colder and should remain colder tomorrow. The Tashiro Area of Kagura remains closed with no additional news from there to report. Hopefully they will be able to re-open soon. - Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 18th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 50cm Snowfall at base this season 664cm Posted on Tuesday 18th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, yesterday during the day it was snowing but it didn't really amount to much at all in terms of new cm. The forecast was for heavy snow overnight and I think some of us were wondering if we might miss out on the big snow. But we haven't. Just measured 50cm of new snowfall where there was none yesterday evening. It's always great to wake up and see that! Kagura are reporting 60cm of new snow. Maiko is reporting 30-50cm, Ishiuchi Maruyama is reporting 30cm. And it is snowing quite heavily right at the moment so there is going to be more to report tomorrow. It's cold too this morning and quite windy. The Ropeway at Yuzawa Kogen is going to be closed today due to the windy conditions, though the town level area is open. Kagura and GALA are going to be open. ----- OK, so there are more details coming from Tashiro (Kagura). 13 staff had tested as positive for covid19 by Saturday, so that's the reason why they are closed at the moment. Officially they are closed 'for the time being', meaning there's no indication of when they might re-open. We will, of course, let you know when there is any news. The Mitsumata and Kagura areas of Kagura are open, all accessed of course from the Mitsumata Ropeway. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 280cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: 260cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 225cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 250cm Kagura The Tashiro Area is currently closed due to staffing issues Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 60cm Official snow depth: Top: 300cm Base: 220cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 235cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30-50cm Official snow depth: 300cm (top) 200cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 230cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 210cm (top) 180cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 260cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 180cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Official snow depth: 225cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 240cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Tuesday 18th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 664cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 31 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 343cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It snowed some more overnight, giving us another total of 24cm of fresh snow measured since yesterday morning. Kagura are reporting 40-50cm, Hakkaisan are reporting 30cm and Ishiuchi are reporting 10cm. Maiko don't seem to have a number for us this morning at time of posting. There's a mix of cloud and some blue sky above the region this morning though forecasts say that snow clouds should persist with some more possibly heavy snow later on tomorrow. So perhaps this morning is a time to enjoy the lull in the snowfall. All ski areas should be opening as planned this morning. - Yuzawa Now: Friday 21st January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 36cm Snowfall at base this season 724cm Posted on Friday 21st January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. So the snow did start yesterday morning and by this morning there's 38cm of it on the measuring point (that's from yesterday early morning). And it's snowing now and due to continue through the day today. Here's what the ski areas are reporting this morning: Kagura: 50cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 30cm Hakkaisan: 30cm (good to see them reporting fresh snowfall lately!) Maiko Snow Resort: 10-30cm So there's a good 30cm, and probably quite a bit more on the mountains in places. There is a bit of a wind this morning which is going to stop the Kagura Area of Kagura from opening (Mitsumata is open) and also the top area of Yuzawa Kogen. The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is closed due to the large amounts of snow (!). In good news, the Tashiro Area of Kagura will be re-opening from tomorrow (22nd January). The forecast says there's a chance of sunshine and calm conditions tomorrow morning. Or at least that this snow storm will have passed. Snow conditions should be great. ----- A period of 'quasi state of emergency' starts today in Niigata Prefecture due to rising covid case numbers. What does that actually mean? Well, most people probably don't really know (count me in). It seems to allow governors to ask restaurants and bars to close early and stop or limit the serving of alcohol, and things like that. So perhaps it will be potentially affecting those kind of businesses rather than ski areas directly. As far as we can tell, as of this morning, there does not seem to be any changes to ski area operations due to this. Whether such a thing affects the number of people coming out to ski... we'll just have to see. We'll keep an eye out and report anything that we notice. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 300cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: 280cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 280cm Kagura The Tashiro Area will re-open from tomorrow (Saturday 22nd) Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 50cm Official snow depth: Top: 320cm Base: 240cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 260cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth: 300cm (top) 210cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 250cm (top) 210cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 235cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Official snow depth: 240cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 21st January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 724cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 33 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 403cm reported on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 22nd January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 738cm Posted on Saturday 22nd January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa and welcome to the weekend. This morning Kagura is reporting 15cm of snowfall, and that's how much was measured down at town level this morning (with probably all of that arriving by last night). Important note: some of the 'snowfall numbers' reported from ski areas in the list below are from last night, rather than over 24 hours. And some of them aren't totally clear on that point. It does make it confusing at times and unfortunately can't do anything about that. Just to be clear, our own observed snowfall numbers are always 24 hours/since the last report. Anyway, we are starting the weekend with cloudy overcast grey clouds. Some forecasts still promise the chance of clearer skies today, so we might get some of that... and there's definitely a good chance of that tomorrow along with slightly milder conditions. Tashiro is back open today. But the Dragondola is still closed (for the moment, that's about all we know on that score). It is noticeable that quite a few ski areas are making clear requests this weekend along the lines of: please don't come if you aren't feeling well, check your temperature on arrival, wear a face mask, use hand sanitiser, keep distance, etc. Ski areas do seem to be opening as normal though. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 320cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth: 270cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 280cm Kagura The Tashiro Area is re-opening from today (Dragondola still closed) Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 15cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 250cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm Official snow depth: 300cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 275cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Saturday 22nd January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 738cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 34 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 417cm reported on 18 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Friday 28th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 748cm Posted on Friday 28th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snow is falling again this morning. At the time of writing, just measured 8cm of it. Earlier this morning, Kagura was reporting 10cm, Maiko reporting 5cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama reporting 3cm as of 7am. Hopefully we will get more cm today. It's not particularly cold this morning, and temps will probably hover around 0C through the day. A break in the snow is currently forecast for tomorrow morning but it should be back by night time again and snowing on Sunday. Our famous snow walls by the side of roads around town that often build up to impressive heights with heavy snowfall have become less high over these last few days with the milder weather and no fresh snowfall, so it'll be good to see them get built up again. And fresh snow makes then nice and white too. They do feel like part of the package here in Yuzawa. The Dragondola lift is re-opening today, once again connecting Naeba with the Tashiro Area of Kagura. All other ski areas open as planned and as far as we can tell we have a normal weekend ahead. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 290cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 3cm Official snow depth: 250cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 220m Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 250cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 230cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5cm Official snow depth: 270cm (top) 170cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 240cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 245cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 28th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 748cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 37 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 427cm reported on 21 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 29th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 773cm Posted on Saturday 29th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for a large part of yesterday, though not the full-on kind that has the cm piling up. With more overnight, we just measured 25cm of new snowfall since yesterday morning. Kagura are reporting 30cm with ski areas around the town area reporting up to 20cm since last night. So there should be a good new fresh layer out there pretty much everywhere this morning. Always good to see, and hopefully there is more incoming over the next few days. Forecasts tell us to expect the snow to ease off during the daytime today. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 300cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm Official snow depth: 270cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 230cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 270cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 260cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10-20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 300cm (top) 190cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 260cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 220cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Saturday 29th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 773cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 38 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 452cm reported on 22 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Sunday 30th January 2022
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 17cm Snowfall at base this season 790cm Posted on Sunday 30th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was snow on and off during yesterday and this morning the snow is still falling, and 17cm has just been measured since yesterday morning in town. The week ahead should be bringing us regular snow with some clearing of the clouds in between. Perhaps the best chance of some heavy dumpage is around Tuesday night. The Ropeway connecting GALA Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen is now open. All ski areas in the area are opening as planned this morning. The popular ones were quite busy yesterday. Just an observation from a few people - perhaps less groups in buses and families with young children than usual. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 320cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm Official snow depth: 280cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 225cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 270cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm Official snow depth: Top: 330cm Base: 250cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 260cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10-20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 295cm (top) 190cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 320cm (top) 220cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 260cm (top) 220cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 265cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 280cm (top) 200cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 30th January 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 790cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 39 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 76cm (28th December) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 469cm reported on 23 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
