The latest Zao Now report can be found here . It's mist land with very light snow falling but this should peter out during the day for a bright moon night. It is jolly cold though and I'm looking forward to the blue skies and relatively big rise in temperatures promised for tomorrow. Only a small amount of snow overnight so again, not much change in slope conditions. It looks like it is going to be a while before we get back any meaningful amount of new snow. I'm being optimistic about this as I am getting fed-up with the hard-packed and icy quality of the slopes. Please may March be a good month! Hopefully wind won't play too much of a part. Forecasts show mostly dry weather over the coming week with sun particularly on Sunday along with some mild conditions going into next week. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 376cm Posted on Thursday 25th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . And the best slope today goes to Sunrise. Although it snowed during yesterday, it felt more for ambience than anything else. However, it has made a difference to the slopes overall, but there is still a lot of ice around. The Kurohime Giant is closed as being mainly a steep ice field and a fall at the top would take you to the bottom. Most others areas have large swathes of ice, but, if you stick to where the piste basher has been, that combined with the 1-2cm of snow makes them mostly ok. Off that, you can encounter nasty wavy glass ice. Half of the Ohira course is still sheet ice. Sunrise is the only fully clear decent slope. The trees are beautiful so make the most of those Kodak moments as they will disappear by the weekend I reckon. The slopes are naturally running very fast so make sure your edges are keen and allow for braking distance. The clouds are racing just above the top of Chuo No. 2 but no real wind on the slopes. The sun has been in and out so a varied day in terms of blue skies. Otherwise it is bright and clear. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Just a little more snow overnight, but perfect snowflaky-flakes to start the day. Pretty nice day, too, with not too many clouds in the sky, calm winds, and temperatures that are still in the minus range at 8 am. Nice if it would stay cold; these cycles of warm and cold are really unusual (and unwanted!). Maybe this is the new trend? We all are thinking about it too much up here on the hill. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday visibility remained limited up top for lots of the time, better below and even some sun... with light snow. So mixed weather. Today should be more consistent. It is a cold start. There's a bit more fresh snow - around 20cm being reported from the Uenotaira area since yesterday morning - and the sun is out. It is going to be a fine day and it should be keeping quite cold. The ski area is reporting a temperature of -13C on Yamabiko as of 7am. More cloud is forecast at the moment for tomorrow, perhaps with some more light snow going into Saturday morning (and sunny skies due that day). The latest Zao Now report can be found here . A token amount of snow last night but enough to make the roof-tops and trees look like the traditional winter resort. Rather difficult to predict what the day will bring as it started off with sunny spells but the fog and mist has now come so probably on and off during the day, including the very light snow falling currently. There are winds about, but again, on and off lower down. Higher up they will be quite strong and indeed the Zao Ropeway 2nd stage is not open today. I understand that this is a combination of strong winds along with the ice build-up they have caused. Ground-wise, it will not be much better than yesterday albeit the token snow helps but may also be a curse as it hides the ice underneath. It is also cold (about -9C at base) and, with the wind chill, cover up those exposed areas. I think my spot for the depth of snow is pretty accurate, though; things were thigh-deep at my house, which gets the north wind (and buries my car!), but not so much at the secret base location... just to add a touch of mystery. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 758cm Posted on Wednesday 24th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. A good layer of fresh snow on the slopes this morning. The resort is reporting 15-21cm of snow overnight since yesterday afternoon. There's still a lot of cloud about this morning but over towards Madarao there's blue skies. It feels like we might get some of that, there are hints of brighter skies as the earlier snow has eased off. A high chance of clearer weather tomorrow but unlike the weekend we just had it will hopefully be keeping colder even with some sun. Beyond tomorrow, perhaps some snow on Friday but back to sun over the weekend again. All a bit up and down at the moment, what often happens rumblings of a changing of the seasons... Let me just add that Nozawa plans to be open until 9th May. So we got well over 2 months left! Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
