- Hakuba Now: Sunday 28th November 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 29cm Posted on Sunday 28th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in Hakuba. Blue skies, sunshine and fresh snow. Can't ask for much more than that. (Well, apart from more fresh snow please... but that's a never-ending thing hey). There's a fair few cars around and I just saw quite a lot of people lining up for the Happo gondola too. The official Hakuba 47 site says 20cm of new snow on upper levels and 50cm on lower areas since yesterday. I think they've got those numbers the wrong way round - definitely not 50cm at base! Still, all sounds good. Happo and Goryu are both reporting 10cm. I have tried to get some information from Tsugaike Kogen about their possible opening but been frustrated at a lack of info. So I can't tell you anything about that. For the moment the choice is is Happo-one, Goryu and 47. (Less of Hakuba 47 will be open from tomorrow through Friday). This early snow has been every exciting but we can expect a few days of clearer skies now as well as higher temperatures. There may also be some rain around Tuesday. We must remember that it is still November and very early season and take it in our stride. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: -cm - Usagidaira: 10cm - Nakiyama: -cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: - - Usagidaira: 135cm - Nakiyama: - Lift & course info - Gondola, Panorama pair and Kokusai Number 3 lifts operating - Panorama run (800m) Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 45cm - Base: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 140cm - Base: 20cm Lift & course info - All lifts plan to be open (apart from Line D, which only operates when the gondola is rested) - Most of the mid to upper areas plan to be open Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: - - Toomi: - Official snow depth: - Upper: 85cm - Toomi: 20cm Lift & course info - Telecabin gondola, Alps Number 1 pair lift, Alps Number 3 pair lifts - Panorama course - Grand Prix - Super Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 28th November 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 29cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 4 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 14cm (27th November) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko and I have more snow to report. I just measured 18cm of it. It's not particularly cold at the moment, around 0C, but a base is definitely building up nicely. It might have felt like the start was late but the last bunch of days has been very promising. Some runs could surely open too with the snow we have, though I haven't heard of any early ski lift movement. - Myoko Now: Saturday 27th November 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 30cm Posted on Saturday 27th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The first real snow on the ground at base level means we can officially start reports for the 2021-2022 season! Looks like about 30cm at the end of the day, and it's still coming down at a very gentle pace. Lots of lightening and thunder since the afternoon, too, something that often happens a lot here before heavy snow falls, and especially graupel (soft hail). Lots of hose little balls of snow out there! Pretty much a normal snowfall for this time of year, and, as usual, the forecast is for some sunny weather to follow the snow, which probably will continue into tomorrow. The resorts are scheduled for opening around the 18th of December, snow permitting, so getting a good base going would be great. Like everyone else, we're all just waiting to see what happens in the ever-changing world of the pandemic. People are hopeful for more domestic travel, at least, but with new virus strains continuing to emerge and cases rising in many places, the locals are getting ready for another possibly tough year (big sigh). No major developments to announce, either. Let's just hope the La Nina forecasts come true and we get a great snow year (falling all the way through April? Yes, please!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 23cm Posted on Saturday 27th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And what a good morning it feels like too. There is a fresh layer of snow on the ground around village areas and it is continuing to snow. Hakuba 47 are reporting around 20cm on lower areas and about 30-40cm higher up. They are also starting up their lifts and lots of course area - for the moment just for this weekend. Beyond that... we'll see. Hakuba Goryu will start up their Alps Number 3 pair lift from today. Hakuba Happo-one are reporting 37cm of fresh snowfall on the Usagidaira area. The official snow depth up there now is 130cm. Very happy to be able to report these things in November! Beyond today the forecasts show that there will be break from this snowfall. But hopefully there is enough snow up on the mountains for the open ski areas to remain open in the coming week. This made me laugh. Good old Facebook. I try my best to avoid it as much as possible, but during the winter there are some Japanese information sources that require me to look. Anyway, one automated translation this morning is 'translating' the name of the ski area Hakuba Happo-one to... 'Hakuba Flirtatious Ridge ski resort'. I like that. They should consider renaming themselves. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 0cm - Usagidaira: 37cm - Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: - - Usagidaira: 130cm - Nakiyama: - Lift & course info - Gondola, Panorama pair and Kokusai Number 3 lifts operating - Panorama run (800m) Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 45cm - Base: 20cm Official snow depth: - Top: 130cm - Base: 20cm Lift & course info - All lifts plan to be open (apart from Line D, which only operates when the gondola is rested) - Most of the mid to upper areas plan to be open Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: - - Toomi: - Official snow depth: - Upper: 70cm - Toomi: 5cm (?) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 26cm Snowfall at base this season 62cm Posted on Friday 26th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here The exciting snow news continues with another decent layer to add to what I reported yesterday. Everywhere is looking white and while the snow clouds still mostly remain, there is also some blue skies and even some sunshine in places. Beautiful. But some light snow falling too. I think the blue sky is temporary and the snow will win - I should have more to report tomorrow. A good opening next week seems very likely which is just how we like it (while sadly missing lots of friends who want to be here to enjoy it). I am of course aware of that whole situation and I do feel for everyone who wants to visit but finds themselves unable to. I don't want you to think that I am just ignoring that, but I also don't want to be mentioning it too much. After all, these are snow (and toast) reports. So like last year I will try my best to strike a good balance on that score and mention when it seems fit and appropriate. ----- Planned opening dates: Niseko Village: Friday 3rd December 2021 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Grand Hirafu: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Moiwa: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 26th November 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 62cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 4 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 31cm (25th November) November 2021 snowfall 62cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko.
