Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 29cm

Posted on Sunday 28th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in Hakuba.

Blue skies, sunshine and fresh snow. Can't ask for much more than that. (Well, apart from more fresh snow please... but that's a never-ending thing hey). There's a fair few cars around and I just saw quite a lot of people lining up for the Happo gondola too.

The official Hakuba 47 site says 20cm of new snow on upper levels and 50cm on lower areas since yesterday. I think they've got those numbers the wrong way round - definitely not 50cm at base! Still, all sounds good.

Happo and Goryu are both reporting 10cm.

I have tried to get some information from Tsugaike Kogen about their possible opening but been frustrated at a lack of info. So I can't tell you anything about that. For the moment the choice is is Happo-one, Goryu and 47. (Less of Hakuba 47 will be open from tomorrow through Friday).

This early snow has been every exciting but we can expect a few days of clearer skies now as well as higher temperatures. There may also be some rain around Tuesday. We must remember that it is still November and very early season and take it in our stride.
