- Hakuba Now: Saturday 18th December 2021
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 36cm Snowfall at base this season 72cm Posted on Saturday 18th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Excellent news to report from Hakuba this morning with a really good layer of snow on the ground. I'm adding 36cm to this report, and it still snowing - and cold. Wind doesn't seem to be creating problems which is good, so conditions should be great for anyone heading up to the slopes this morning. Hakuba Goryu, 47 and Tsugaike are all reporting 50cm of fresh snow on their upper areas with about 30cm added to lower areas. Lower course areas of 47 are open again this morning. Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field and Hakuba Cortina are also both part open from today, so there's now six ski areas open. The official Happo-one site is struggling this morning (presumably with traffic) so I can't bring you any specifics from there. Bottom line: Great news. More opening and incoming fresh snow. Some of the info below might be outdated. Hopefully we'll be able to catch up on things tomorrow... ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 45cm - Usagidaira: 34cm - Nakiyama: -cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 135cm - Usagidaira: 107cm - Nakiyama: - Planned lift operations: - Adam Gondola - Panorama pair lift - Kokusai Number 3 pair lift - Alpen quad lift - Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Usagidaira course - Kurobishi course Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 50cm - Base: 30cm Official snow depth: - Top: 145cm - Base: 30cm Planned lift & course openings: - All scheduled lifts open (Line D usually only opens when the gondola is not operating) - Almost all open - Tree Riding Zones closed Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 50cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 130cm - Toomi: ?cm Planned lift operations: - Telecabin gondola - Alps Number 1 pair lift - Alps Number 3 pair lift Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Grand Prix - Technical - Super Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall: - Upper: 50cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 160cm - Lower: 50cm Planned lift & course openings: - Gondola - Han-no-ki pair lift - Tsuga Number 2 pair lift - Han-no-ki course upper area, Tsuga-no-mori area Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Saturday 18th December 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 72cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 9 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 36cm (18th December) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 43cm reported on 5 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 140cm Posted on Friday 17th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It's snowing this morning. And quite nicely as I write this. There's not much fresh on the ground for the moment (with ski areas reporting around 5cm), but we should now be heading into a period of particular excite. Steady snowfall is on the forecast through into next week, heavy at times. Tomorrow should be getting really cold. I think that's it for this morning. So I'll see you tomorrow. ----- Oh yes, night skiing is planned to start from tomorrow, but it will depend on the snow and might be delayed. And on the subject of night skiing I must apologise as it seems that one piece of information has slipped through my radar --- HANAZONO do plan to do night skiing this season! I'll write more about that in my report tomorrow. ----- Planned ski area operations: Friday 17th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 138cm Posted on Thursday 16th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I have just a bit of fresh snow to report from yesterday, though actually the ski areas themselves are not reporting any this morning. It was a curious mix of weather yesterday with some rain at lower areas but snow higher up. It feels colder this morning and there's a bit of sun shining through early this morning. It should be a fairly decent morning out there, I suppose, but it feels like we should be ending all this faffing about and get those taps turned on properly. Thankfully, that looks like it might well be happening from later tomorrow. In ski area news the Niseko Gondola (at Niseko Village) will be re-opening this morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 13cm Snowfall at base this season 137cm Posted on Tuesday 14th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. We got some more fresh snowfall during the day yesterday and as a result I have another 13cm to add to my reports. It is a somewhat calmer scenario this morning with less wind and it's a generally grey kind of start to the day. Forecasts are looking good for consistent snow from Friday. It should be building up and hopefully ski areas will be able to open up more. It's always great when I am able to just say 'all open'. A few lift operation changes to report. This morning Hirafu have their King Number 3 quad lift moving and few more courses available - specifically Jumbo Rinkan, Detour for Beginners. Over at Annupuri they are ging to have their Jumbo Number 1 quad operating. Night skiing is planned to begin from this coming Saturday. Haven't heard any specific news on that but if we get more snow before the weekend I think we should be ok with that. (I'm guessing). ----- I will try to keep up with exactly what courses are open in my lists below. Hirafu and Annupuri are quite forthcoming with such information, but the other two are curiously less so. Perhaps it's a secret. I must say, it feels a bit weird having to really rummage around just to try and find out what to me seems like fairly basic information. Anyway, I will report the information that I am able to find. (And in this case, I won't guess). ----- Planned ski area operations: Tuesday 14th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 124cm Posted on Monday 13th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hurray! After six days with no fresh snowfall to report, I have a nice layer of it to tell you about this morning. It was great to see it coming down again last night. I have measured 15cm of it and with more snow on the forecast things are looking and feeling more positive this morning. Even if the temperatures are in the negative. It sounds even better when I saw the 25cm of new snowfall that Hirafu seem to be reporting on their official report. Yey. It was a bit windy out there when I was out walking my toast and that may very well affect this morning. If that is the price to pay for a decent delivery of fresh snow, I think we are all prepared to accept that. (I need to post the report early this morning so apologies for not being able to report on the 8:30am situation). Having said all that, as I prepare to post this report there is some small areas of blue sky on show. So rather changeable conditions at the start of the day. ----- About the 'official snow depth' (and changes in those numbers) and 'official 24 hours snowfall' numbers that I post below. Sometimes they seem a bit odd and don't seem to 'add up' or be logical. There's all sorts of reasons for that. My advice: don't over-think on them. I'm just reporting what is on the official information each morning - as a bit of extra info to put out there, for your excite consideration. ----- Planned ski area operations: Monday 13th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report.
