  • Geto Kogen Now: Wednesday 22nd December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 14cm Snowfall at base this season 315cm Posted on Wednesday 22nd December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning. 14cm of snow to report from base, with the ski area reporting just over 20cm higher up. Yesterday we had rain, turning into sleet, turning into snow. And we have snow on the forecast for today, though right now there is even a bit of sun. Mostly cloudy though. It's quite windy too at times, hopefully that won't affect lifts but there is a chance it will. The weekend is looking like it will be snowing a lot in many areas of Japan, including here! Courses open: All main courses are now mostly open Tree run courses should be available from early January Lifts operating: Number 1 pair Number 2 pair Number 1 gondola Quad lift Official snow depth: Upper: 200cm Lower: 95cm Geto Kogen Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 22nd December 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 315cm Number of days snowfall observed 15 days Most snowfall observed on 1 day 45cm (on 19th December) November 2021 snowfall 106cm observed on 5 days December 2021 snowfall 209cm observed on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Geto Kogen. • Niseko Now: Tuesday 21st December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 222cm Posted on Tuesday 21st December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I have just measured another 15cm of snow since my last report, with steady snow yesterday and a bit more overnight. I'm pleased to say that it is top quality stuff too. This morning depending on which way you look you'll see different things. Cloud or clearer some perhaps unexpected blue sky even. That probably won't last long as we are still told to expect steady incoming snowfall. The clearer skies above the mountain should make for some fine early morning turns though. There's not much of a wind at all this morning, which is always good to be able to say. From today the Hanazono Gondola will be open until 7:00pm for night skiing. The other lifts at Hanazono close at 3:00pm. The Dynamic course now open at Annupuri. ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa base: -2℃, 10cm snow in 12h. Moiwa700m: -3℃, calm, 15cm new snow. Annupuri1000m: -6℃, calm, 15cm new snow. Coastal data Benkei cape: NNE3m/s, Kamui cape: calm, 1006 hPa, 0.9m waves. Mountain weather data n/a. Calm morning with light snowfall under 1000m elevation as the low pressure band moved away. Looking at the data, snowfall transition and observation, the general avalanche risk in the Niseko mountain range under 1100m elevation is low. The snowpack around 1000m elevation is still thin and out of bounds riding is yet to open. The wind remained strong above 1300m until this morning and made snowdrifts develop in the leeward slopes. 60cm thick surface slab avalanche occurrence should be considered in those slopes. Triggered by Dec 18th layer made of temperature difference. Caution is required in wide open steep slopes of Mt Yotei and/or Chisenupuri, knolls and gullies’ sidewalls. The snowpack is growing slowly and the snow in the treeruns under 800m is good. Beware of the creeks as they are not fully buried yet. The river water is literally ice-cold. Beware also of tree-stumps. Have a nice day. ----- Planned ski area operations: Tuesday 21st December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. • Niseko Now: Monday 20th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 207cm Posted on Monday 20th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here It's really snowing very nicely as I sit here writing this report. The kind of snow that sees those cm building up. People who are looking for some clear blue skies are going to be disappointed over the next week with consistent snow lined up on the forecast. It doesn't feel windy out there so it should be a very fine morning. Good news from Hirafu where only five official runs remain closed; all others now open. Out of bounds areas and gates are not yet open. As I am about to post the report at 8:30am the slick 6-person base lift at Hanazono appears to be on hold. Not sure why. That thing looks slick even when it's on hold. Though I'd prefer it were moving. ;) ----- Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa Base: -7℃, 12cm snowfall in the last 12hrs. Moiwa700m: -7℃, light WNW wind, good visibility. Annupuri 1000m: -8℃, 20cm new snow, light WNW wind. Benkei Cape: NW13m/s, Kamui cape: WSW12m/s, pressure 1011hPa, wave 1.2m. Other mountain Data n/a. 15-20cm of new snow, without wind, has fallen overnight. Snowdrifts development is small and general avalanche risk is low. The gates are not ready yet and the out of bounds areas are still closed. This information and the Niseko Rules are implemented for accident prevention. Since this mountain is not a wild untouched mountain, but a ski resort, it is necessary to set some kind of rule to avoid accidents that can happen too easily. The Niseko Rules have been implemented out of necessity from past repeated tragic accidents. They are not Rules to hold back the freedom of skiers/snowboarders. Ski resorts are here for all levels of snow enthusiasts. One track under the boundary rope could lead many others to follow it, and eventually trigger an accident. We strongly ask all resort visitors to respect the Niseko Rules. The inbounds snow condition is fantastic today. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . A late start. It's that time of year, is my excuse. The phone rings, it's not really the season yet (although there was some great snow at Akakan yesterday! Light powder for the opener! And it kept on snowing!). But I'm glad, because the weather has changed a bit here. The sun is now poking out, it's a bit warmer than the past few days, and will rise tomorrow before snow (hopefully) returns on Wednesday. Tomorrow should also see some sun and it is going to be getting a bit warmer too. Let's hope it keeps under control, we don't want our precious snow to be affected. The next significant snow looks like it'll be with us at the weekend, but we might/should get some more before then tomorrow night into Wednesday. Some really good snow depth numbers being clocked in now around the ski areas. We're doing well. I am pleased. (Can you tell I am ignoring all the news on the tv and online? It really does help, I recommend it if you are able to.) Please bear with me as I add other ski area info to the report. Hopefully tomorrow. All ski areas apart from Jigatake are now open. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: - Kurobishi: 20cm - Usagidaira: 40cm - Nakiyama: -cm Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 140cm - Usagidaira: 138cm - Nakiyama: - Planned lift operations: - Adam Gondola - Panorama pair lift - Kokusai Number 1 pair lift - Kokusai Number 3 pair lift - Alpen quad lift - Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift - Skyline Number 2 pair lift - Kita one quad Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Usagidaira course - Kurobishi course - Skyline Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall: - Summit: 15cm - Lower: 15cm Official snow depth: - Top: 170cm - Base: 60cm Planned lift & course openings: - All scheduled lifts open (Line D usually only opens when the gondola is not operating) - All but a few small areas of official runs are open - Tree Riding Zones closed Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: - Upper: 25cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 175cm - Toomi: 100cm Planned lift operations: - Telecabin gondola - Alps Number 1 pair lift - Alps Number 3 pair lift - Toomi quad Planned course openings: - Panorama course - Grand Prix - Technical - Super - Champion Dynamic - Woody - Toomi Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall: - Upper: 30cm Official snow depth: - Upper: 190cm - Lower: 60cm Hakuba Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Monday 20th December 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 89cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 11 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 36cm (18th December) November 2021 snowfall 29cm reported on 4 days December 2021 snowfall 60cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. • Niseko Now: Sunday 19th December 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 19cm Snowfall at base this season 191cm Posted on Sunday 19th December 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Lots more lovely snow to report to you this morning. Hirafu are reporting another 50cm of fresh and now have an official snow depth of 200cm on their upper slopes. That is good to see. I am measuring 19cm since my report yesterday. Right now it's generally cloudy with some light snow falling and the forecasts for the coming week has consistent snowfall lined up. Nice. Night skiing at Niseko Grand Hirafu will start from tonight. It looks like night skiing at HANAZONO will have to wait a little bit longer to get started. Currently the shiny new gondola is open until 4:00pm. It's interesting that this season night skiing is until 7:00pm at Niseko Hirafu and Niseko Village and until 7:30pm at Niseko Annupuri. I can remember when night skiing was until 9:30pm. It kind of feels a bit like when your favourite chocolate bar shrinks a bit in size (and costs the same or more). Or your favourite restaurant starts cutting down on portion sizes. My toast will most certainly - and stubbornly - always remain the same size! But getting back to the subject at hand, I have noted in the lists below which lifts are scheduled to be open for night skiing. ----- A shout out to the good folk who put together the Avalanche Reports every season. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu! Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa Base -7 degrees, 15cm in the last 12hrs, calm. Benkei Cape NW15m/s, Caper Kamui, WSW9m/s, pressure 1008hPa, wave 1.9m. Annupuri 1000m: -9 degrees 30cm new snow, minor snowdrift development. Mountain Data n/a. The atmospheric pressure gradient is flattening out, and the strong wind snow is starting to settle down. Significant snowdrift and cornice development came with yesterday's blizzard conditions where the snowdrifts themselves will easily collapse from rider stimulation. Along with this is the secondary risk from weak layers formed during cold, sunny weather. Caution is required on all fresh snow slopes during and immediately after a storm in the mountains along the Sea of Japan. Still lots of bushes off course, not recommended. Gates closed. Niseko Rules of put in place for riding out of bounds, you must follow the rules! Wear your helmet and beacon. The avalanche risk continues on leeward slopes above 1000m due to the underlying weak layers in the old snow below the new snow drifts of the last 2 days. Avoid riding open steep slopes like Kozan no Sawa side wall. Have a good day. ----- Planned ski area operations: Sunday 19th December 2021 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report.
