Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 671cm Posted on Monday 31st January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Snow during the day yesterday and some more overnight. Not huge numbers to report this morning - though a thoroughly respectable 25cm on the top areas of the mountain (with 10cm of that overnight). We start this Monday morning and last day of January with light snowfall and a cold start. Perhaps we'll get light snow (on and off?) through the day today. There's quite a lot of snow lined up there on forecasts through next weekend, particularly later in the week, so there should be regular refreshes. Rested lifts today: Skyline connecting pair, Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair. Fresh snowfall recorded by the ski area (total since yesterday morning): - Yamabiko (1615m): 25cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 25cm - Hikage (660m): 12cm - Nagasaka (616m): 13cm - Karasawa (563m): 3cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area): - Yamabiko (1615m): 340cm - Uenotaira (1407m): 305cm - Hikage (660m): 295cm - Nagasaka (616m): 275cm - Karasawa (563m): 200cm All courses apart from the following plan to be open: - Yunomine A - Grand Prix Planned operating lifts (this is general info - for any specifics see top report): - Subject to weather conditions all lifts that plan to be open should be ok. See above main report for specific info for this morning. - The top Yamabiko A-D courses close at 3:20pm until 27th March (at 3:10pm after that). - Skyline course closes at 4:10pm. - The Nagasaka quad lift is planned to open for night skiing 11th-12th Feb (subject to change). • Zao Now: Sunday 30th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 422cm Posted on Sunday 30th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao. The sun is appearing earlier than anticipated although it will be an in/out day. There is wind about which may get stronger during the day but nothing lift stopping. The very light snow at present may pick up a bit but moderately. In the meantime, the modest snow last night is still welcome as there were compact patches appearing on the more popular slopes yesterday e.g. Hyakumanin. It appears to be a popular weekend with most people being on the far right side as you look at the mountain. Probably also wanting to go to the very top, however, the snow monsters are very low this year and can be seen even on the Utopia lift. There was a winding queue for the second stage ropeway to the top by mid-morning so be aware of that. Official snow depth: Summit: 150cm Paradise: 190cm Chuo: 190cm Utopia: 215cm Uwanodai: 150cm All areas and lifts should be opening as scheduled. • Myoko Now: Sunday 30th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 31cm Snowfall at base this season 1003cm Posted on Sunday 30th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow never completely stopped yesterday, with very very very light snow continuing to fall during the day. Just enough to soften up footsteps and keep things nice and white. It started up again in earnest last night, so we have about 30cm on the ground so far (when I listen to radio reports from around the world, I realize how bizarre that really is; oh, the usual foot of snow in Myoko means panic and traffic closures is so many other places). A little bit of north wind with this snow, too; there's a little cornice hanging off the snow walls that now mark the entry to my house. We're pretty open to the north, though, so I don't think there will be enough wind to close lifts. Could be a little brisk on some of the lifts that likewise are open to the north, such as at Akakura Onsen. Hey, but you really feel alive when you get off a lift like that, right? The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Geto Kogen. Sorry for the later report today, dealing with heavy snowfall. The ski area this morning reports a whopping 100cm on the mountain and there has been 82cm down at base. It basically hasn't stopped and there hasn't been much of a wind, so it has just been relentlessly piling up. Nice. Visibility this morning is limited not because of blizzard conditions but because of the snow coming down. Truly deep snow this morning. Exciting, but super care needs to be taken. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 660cm Posted on Sunday 30th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The numbers I have from the ski area this morning are from yesterday afternoon (sorry I was not able to check later in the day yesterday) though I don't think a 24 hour total will be significantly higher than that. I think it was snowing harder a little to the north this time. Still, a good 20cm or so, and it is snowing still this morning. Once again there's already a light thin layer of snow on Naski's head. Looks like we are going into a week of mixed weather with snow never too far away, so all being well we will have regular top-ups and perhaps a reset or two. Mid winter through February please! (For those of you who get worked up about 'the numbers', I am unable to report more than is observed by my eyes and measured by my ruler. That would be intentionally misleading. Sorry, don't do that.) OK, now I've got that out of my way, let me refresh my mind and put a smile back on my face... :) Cortina is this morning reporting 5-15cm over the last 24 hours and Tsugaike 10cm on upper areas. Light snow falling just now and it's a cold start to the day. A it like yesterday really. It should be a fine morning to be out there. It had pretty much slowed down last evening, with an occasion furious flurry, but a good amount of snow did come down overnight. Not as many people out there as there should be to enjoy it! There was a gentle stream of cars heading up the hill earlier in the morning, but no maxed-out parking lots, it seems. Maybe with the sun out more people will be coming up during the day. • Nozawa Now: Saturday 29th January 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 640cm Posted on Saturday 29th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello to you all and good morning from Nozawa. There's a bunch of snow to report this morning. The ski area itself has reported 35-41cm of snow on the upper areas since yesterday morning (30cm of that since late afternoon). Nice. Lower down on the mountain there's been snow too, around 25cm give or take. Sounds like there should be some fine tracks to be had this morning. There should be more snow especially tonight and during the day tomorrow. It's certainly not warm, but it has not been mid-winter bone-shaking cold over recent days down here in the village. Currently -2C at base and -9C up top according to the ski area. Rested lifts today: Challenge pair, Utopia pair, Karasawa pair.
