This morning snow is falling again but we once again might get to see a bit of sun at times. Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 20cm of snowfall and Kumanoyu 30cm. The snow clouds shouldn't be far away, though, with more consistent snow on the forecasts right through until early next week - and heavy at times. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 28cm Snowfall at base this season 995cm Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . Well, we got snow, and it’s still coming down (lightly), and there was a touch of wind, but none of these things arrived in large quantities. Good snow, a nice addition to the snowpack, but not that much. I heard (not yet substantiated) tales of more snow falling in Joetsu City, to the north of us, which does happen when the winds come more westerly than northwesterly. I’ll do a little research on that. And the forecast is for continued snow and some strong winds, especially tomorrow and Saturday, but as usual in 2025, we’ll just have to see. Oh, yeah, it was colder, too, and might get even colder in the coming days. Good for the powder condition. Other than that, just the usual struggles to stay ahead of snow and replace the ever-snapping shear pins on the otherwise trusty new peter, the local name for the big snowthrowers required in this area. Long hours, but nice, clean driveways and parking lots. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 379cm Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good morning skiers and boarders, Another day, another 7 cm. Kind of topping off the tea cup if you ask me. My clear preference is for lots of snow, all the time, so I get a bit grumpy when that's not happening. But that's just me. Non-powder skiers are more than happy. It's very nice snow. Back-country folk are also happy, seems to be enough out there for them. I don't like to work that hard, so that's on me. A note to the aforementioned back-country crowd: people are getting lost out there and unfortunately rescues are happening. A few things to confirm: --Do you have a map and compass? --Do you have a whistle? --Have you told someone where you are going? --Do you have some kind of GPS locator so you know where you are? --And very importantly, do you have a GPS messenger (SPOT or Garmin Inreach) so you can call for help if things go south? --Did you buy the optional rescue insurance? Frankly, if you don't have the above, you are a lost skier waiting to happen. Hey, go out there. Have fun, but have a plan in place for when things go bad. Think snow.
