Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 20cm Snowfall at base this season 55cm Posted on Thursday 4th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The first real snow of the year; that November snow never really counts, because it comes down heavy and wet and pretty deep but it always melts away (we still add it to the annual total, of course). Today it's 20cm and counting, and it's supposed to stay colds and keep on falling. The first trucks of the season not able to get up the slope in front of our reporting center. That's a sure sign of real snow. One of our dear readers wrote that, if I mention a young dog getting her first experience in snow, photos are required. I only have a video, and the second shot (joyful dog in air) is super blurry. But I think you get the message that snow joy is not just for humans. Good job Sunny.... It might not have been peak season dry and fluffy, but it was still snow and most definitely better than the rain that lower areas go. Yakebitaiyama was reporting as much as 15cm of fresh snow! This morning the sun is out. Back to cloud tomorrow and perhaps some rain (I wonder if there might be any more snow left) and possibly windy too. - Niseko Now: Wednesday 8th April 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 875cm Good morning from Niseko. I bring snowy snow news! Yes, a modest dusting-plus of snow even down to lower levels. Hanazono and Hirafu are both saying 5cm. I say (or, more accurately, measure) 2cm. Cloudy earlier but now lots of blue sky and sunshine. Some friendly cloud here and there. Seems quite windy and top lifts are delayed but hopefully will open. Anyway, beautiful. How are you all? I've had a few people send in some words of encouragement over the last few days as I continue to battle on to the end of the season. It seems like there's quite a lot of people still reading these reports, even as the season winds down and the real world gets pushed to 'previously unimaginable limits of insanity'. (That last bit is a quote from someone who wrote in - good one). Even when you try to avoid it as much as possible, it's close to impossible to avoid the obnoxious reality show that is being imposed on us all, isn't it. I suppose writing these reports is a bit of therapy for me as I continue to appreciate the beauty of our nature and our world every day. Even given the always complicated feeling as the end of the season approaches! Anyway, thanks for your comments, and I wish you all well.
